Has anyone had any issues with small door rattles in their FJ? I have 2200 miles and since about 1500, I have noticed a small but constant rattle in the rear passenger door. Anyone have any thoughts. I have checked the roof racks and everything is tight and silent. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I had a rattle that sounded like it was from the door but after removing the cross bars on the roof rack the noise went a way. Give it a try. I've had the cross bars fixed and now it is quiet again untill I attach the hi-lift.
One thing I learned from owning an American made motorcycle, is to use blue thread locker on all bolts. Vibration on a truck will do the same, especially a 4wd. Once my FJ is delivered to me tomorrow afternoon I'll be looking at the roof rack myself in advance of any rattles.
There is a rattle from the roof rack because the cross bar bolts bottom out before sungging down. There is a Toyota maintenance alert about this and your dealer can provide you with a kit (I believe it is washers - I'm waiting on mine). That may be the source and solution.
However, on a rutty/rough road, I do get some door noise that I do not believe is the roof rack - I think it is part of the nature of having the rear door be the door pillar for the front door.

yes I have the same problem severe washboard roads they vibrate and rattle a lot . Havent had time to go to dealer about it yet. Suicide doors probably the reason. My ford trucks do the same thing.
I think I found part of the problem. The door handles are kind of loose. When I hit washboard roads they are causing most of the rattle. Taking it to the dealer someday!
I pullled the door panel off today and it seems to me that the cables for the door handles rub a little on the channel they fit in to. Tighten up a little and added some foam tape and it has stopped. Thanks for all the feedback.
So, has anyone taken it to the dealer for a fix? Mine did not rattle at all for the first 5K miles. I hoped it would be a simple adjustment of the strikers or something.
Try driving an FJC on gravel roads it's entire life, I bet the doors won't even shut correctly anymore.
I have an 01 Ford F250 at the mine site I work at. Hardly ever sees a paved road, infact the undercarriage is so worn and sloppy that it is scary on the highway. Only driven on the mine site, and I have wheeled it hard, rocks, berms, cross country travel 70% of the time. The third doors on it due to the extended cab rattle all the time. You can see daylight around the edges. Maybe some adjustment would help, but they suck, don't even line up properly anymore. I suspect the FJC may suffer the same fate. Really Toyota should have shortened the front door a tad and put on back doors. The FJC is almost the same size as a 60 series or 80 series, and they managed to have 4 real doors. Time will tell, but under severe use, they will begin to rattle quickly I suspect, my work truck only has 31,000 miles, and will probably go to the scrap heap in a couple of years.
I haven't had a problem with rattling, but for the last couple thousand miles I've been hearing a strange whistle anytime I go over 70 mph, I went to the dealership but they didn't know what it was...Anybody else had MY problem?-I've talked to other fj owners, but no one seems to be able to figure it out!
I had the same problem - took it to the dealer and there was a bulletin on the rear door rattle. Took him about an hour to fix and it's been fine ever since

My dealer, who is usually pretty on the ball, could find no TSB on the door rattle I called a fellow TornadoAlley club member who is with Toyota and he could not find one either. Do you guys know what the dealer did? Or have any specific info on the TSB?
