Hello,

I am new to the form and searched for this but did not find what I was looking for. If there is an old post that describes my issue and provides a resolution please post.

Issue: I live in North TX and during the summer once the temps climb into the 90's my door locks fail to work to either lock or unlock the car. On the tailgate my key will not even activate the lock at all in the heat rendering it unusable. On the drivers side and passengers side it will unlock with the key still. Basically all of the doors have the same issue in different levels of severity. From October through May I have no issues with this at all when the weather here is less extreme. Last Summer '11 was the first time that this started occuring. It stopped in late September and I never gave it another throught until it started again this month.

My thoughts on repair: I am not sure if it is the locking mechanism or something else that powers the actual door to unlock. I don't want to take off all the door panels to lube everything if that is not what the root cause of the issue is.

Thank you in advance for any help. I've had my LC for 10 years now and it has exceeded my expectations. I am hoping that this is a common issue and that there are members with knowlege on how to remediate the issue.

Sincerely,
Britt

Sounds like you actuator motors could use a replacement. Not sure about tailgate lock, but if you replace them all, it may fix it. Check the Land Cruiser FAQ sticky at the top of the page. There is a thread about door locks....

Our Lexus is300 does this same thing. On those you only need to replace a small motor inside the door lock actuator. Lots of work but only $6. Not sure you can do that on a 100. Unfortunately you will need new actuators for them to work reliably again, lubing, etc. Probably won't do anything.

You can do exactly the same thing on the 100. Search door actuator, sure to find a few threads about this issue with slow/weak actuators.
