My son really wants to train the newest member of our family. I found this video for him:
Dog Training: The Gentle & Effective Method

It's on NETFLIX so I thought we could try it. I'm no trainer, but I do expect my dogs to come, sit, lay down ad stay. Fetching is a bonus that is pretty fun.

The problem that I see right now is that Mason (age nearly 9) is not the master to them. The dogs listen to me, but not the other members of the family.

My daughter joined a 4H dog club when she was 9 where they focus on obedience. It has been great. She gets to compete at the local county fairs each summer.

Might see if they offer that in spokanistan. They meet once a week and have a experienced dog handler help them.

It has been good for both of them..

Dogs will obey more than just the alpha dog (you). As long as the dog doesn't think Mason is lower on the totem pole than he is, Mason should be able to train the dog--if Mason is consistent. Most kids are not. What I'm saying is, you may need to train your son before your son trains your dog. ;)

i always trained my dogs growing up, i purposely don't mess with my kid's dog. (just enough that he'll come to me when called) but they handle everyhting else. so far so good. when he walks up to anyone he sits down and waits to be pet. i got them to train him to do that because he is a mastif / st. bernard mix.
