I have used a couple of different brand dog hammocks, the kind that attach with straps on the front and middle row headrests to create a sort of "dog taco" so they don't fall down into the footwells when braking, as compared to just a seat cover. These always fail where the headrest straps are sewn, especially with a larger dog I've been transporting recently.

Any recommendations for a truly heavy duty dog hammock (reinforced strap stitching) out there that's also large enough to cover the 100-series seats, or that has the side covers to protect them better? I do have additional door panel covers that clip into the top area where the window retracts.

Don't have a dog nor experience, just wanted to share what friends are doing in their truck as I thought the idea isn't bad (I know, might not fit your use case blablabla, but why not stating :)):
They fold up the 2nd row and have the dog laying behind this. more space and further down in case of an accident. and the seat itself doesn't get as dirty and/or scratched.

Thanks! Do they have the third row in place in this case? That's how I'm picturing the setup. Tat could be a good option and I could possibly still use the hammock or even just some thick blankets for comfort.
I also tend to use load-up harnesses (dog seat belts) if doing anything other than around town on city streets driving so they are better protected in a crash.

That’s very similar to the Ruffwear Load-up harness I mentioned that I use.

The Ruffwear has a larger chest area that’s fairly thick material too so I think it might distribute crash forces a bit better. I looked at about 6 different “dog seat belts” before landing on this one. I will say we even tried different brands in store and they all fit various breeds better than others so worthwhile finding one that is a proper fit for your individual dog, so I can’t say the one I chose is right for everyone.

This only works as long as the 2nd row is strapped up to the OS bar in the ceiling. The seats can fall, and they carry a ton of inertia when this happens. Easy disaster. Additionally, seems like it might be tricky for a bigger dog to jump in to this space. :meh:

I use a waterproof hammock from Amazon. I think it was like $40. Attaches to the headrest poles on first and second row with a little plastic anchor to go between top and bottom sections of back seats. Super easy to fold down or simply remove if I have people in the back seat. The sides can be zipped up to cover the door panels (if your dog likes to put their nails here) or left down, to cover around the edge of the seat.
