Hi

I bought a bluetooth OBD2 from ebay and plugged it in my lexus lx470 1998 but it seems to have problem connecting with the ECU so i wanted to know if Lx470 1998 OBD 2 compliant???

Thanks.

If it's a US spec vehicle, yes.

Every vehicle sold in the US beginning with the 1996 vehicle year has to be OBII compliant.

I bought a cheap blutooth dongle on ebay and it didn't work. I finally bought one of the $50 units on amazon and it works perfectly with the tourque app on my smartphone.

its not in US its in middle east, so i dont know if they also have it abd 2 compliant or not.

check the labels in the engine compartment but having an OBD2 connector under the dash suggests that it should work.

I believe others have had the connector but no obd2.

The Unit seems to be working fine i tested it on Honda CR-V 2004 and it worked fine with torque in my phone, i dont know if the battery matters or not because before 2 days the battery was loose and i reconnected it and everything went to default like i installed a new battery, so is that have something to do with the obd2? because i heard that the car needs to run at speed of 100 or something like that for 5 min or something so then the obd2 can start giving results i am not sure of that i just heard it.

I don't recall. Possible of course, but would be odd in the grand scheme of things.

I would think (not based on solid knowledge of those systems besides some reading of codes with a tester) that if your OBD system is indeed set up and working properly you should see something even pretty soon after the battery has been disconnected. In fact, that is one of the functions of the OBD2 system, it will tell you if the emissions monitor are not ready, which happens after a battery disconnect and until enough driving is done. I have checked those on my 80 immediately after a battery disconnect and saw plenty of info there.
I would think that an owner's manual for your vehicle would state whether the system is functional or not.

Ok but do you know what are the cycles to set the status to "ready"? for the lexus lx470 1998?

cuz i dont know it and every car have certain type of driving cycle.

Post #31 down may be of some value.

NMuzj100 also posted this link that says there was 5 different OBDII communication protocol before 2008.

no, I don't. It should be in the factory service manual. And not all the emissions monitors get set to ready at the same time.
Anyway, if you don't have an emissions test that should not matter for you if you are only interested in things like water temperature and general engine parameters.

I will drive the car for a while now and will do a test after few days and i read the manual and didn't find anything regarding this issue.

Thanks.
