I noticed today that all the letters in the dashboard indicator light up when the gear selector is in tha gear--except for "D". Is it supposed to?

Its interesting to see others with the exact same problems. I'm with the others; I'm not so sure I want the thing back on.

Just a side note about Land Cruisers and bright dash lights: We had a 1973 Fj55 (It was my mothers DD--we bought it new) and my mother used to wedge a piece of paper over the head light purple light on the dash. I remember it was so bright I could see the purple light reflecting on her skin at night.

Another slapping success!!

This is so weird that so many have this issue. I slapped the dash about 3 times and it came back on today.

My instrument panel combi meter D light has been out for a long time.

Another one of those minor things that doesn't work anymore on a gracefully aging vehicle, yet I don't care at all.

(Like the exterior rearview mirror power tilt that died several months ago. $675 for a new mirror? No thanks.)

And I agree with the idea that it may be better if the D light is not working anyway - less combi light clutter to distract at night.

Yeah, one can always just look at the shift lever to see where their tranny is (until that bulb goes out too)...

Easy: Unless any other light is on, it's in "D". :)
BTW, you *do* know there's no bulb in the red shift lever mark, ¿don't you? ;)

Yes, but I'm smart enough to see where the shift lever arm comes out of the slot, and can correlate that to the reading on the gate, even in the dark (as long as there is some ambient light, even other dash lights or star light). ;)

Of course, I'm spoiled in the 100, as it has the snaking gate pattern like Mercedes has been doing for decades. So I can pretty much tell "by feel" what position it's in, similar to a standard/manual.

No D and I like it, I hate bright lights unless they are ponting away from me. If thats the case Ill take some 10,000,000 candle power bulbs please

We should all just add "D-light mod" to our siglines and declare victory.

Both D's out on my rigs. I like it that way.
