Does anyone have pics of NW-sickboy's rear tube bumper saved??

Been searching for pics, and even had an old link that NW-sickboy gave me himself, but they're all dead.

Hoping someone has a few pics saved. Going to be starting on my rear bumper on the 80 soon and had been using his for inspiration but lost my harddrive and all the pics I had saved along with it.

Thanks,

Ary

But of course :D

Thanks Dave!

I hadn't realized he cut his quarter panels up so high. Doesn't look like it was that necessary based on the location of the bumper though.

Hopefully you will be seeing something a little bit similar to that in the next 6 months. :D

They are cut more than they needed to be, but it's a visual thing and may be easier to seal off by just whacking the whole thing.

I'd like to see that same bumper with the lower side wraps tucked more up under the quarter panel into the body, braced back to the frame just like they are, and then a very small upper hoop angled just up where the "cup" of the quarter panel to the lower section of where you trim is. See TiredIron's bumper below - the angle up to the quarter panel follows the lines of the body perfectly, and right where he has the tube to start that side hoop is where you stop the bumper. Side wrap tube carries around from the main bumper and then the hoop angles out to that little "tuck" in the quarter panel. With tube starting higher up, you'd have the main wrap tucked right into the lowest part of the quarter panel with no trimming. You might not even have to trim much at all to do this.

So you get side protection, but it's coming out more at an angle from the main bumper side wrap for better side impact rigidity (kind of like you see on Slee step sliders - those step tubes can take the abuse ), and you haven't made the rear end get big hips.

What I hate about 80 series rear ends is the lines get totally ruined by these bumpers with a squared off side guard. The 80 has perfect lines from the rear when you take off the plastic, and I think you can get the reasonable protection you need without compromising those lines. Leaving the flares on makes that job a bit easier, but I think it's still the same fundamental visual objective.

That will be the essence of my bumper project once I can do it. No material added weight, tucked in tight, tire carrier angled to the body just like NW Sickboy's, and quarter panel protection with full frame bracing and no fat chick hips.

If you can pull that off as a design I'll send you more pics when you need them :D.

You lost me

My goal is to have bottom and side protection with a bit of quarter panel protection as well. I also want to gain significant clearance, both height wise and length wise. I also will integrate a hitch as I still use this truck to tow with.

This is the second project on the list for the 80 once the pickup is done(SOON), right behind sliders which will be a rather simple install.
