I have a 94 fzj80 and was looking at the 4x4 labs rear bumper and It looks like I would have to cut the rear section of my exhaust and resonator(I think thats what you call it)off. Am I right? If so how does it affect the flow of exhaust away from the vehicle on trails? Thanks

Yes you have to cut off the resonator. When you do the exhuast will whistle a little bit, but its not any louder.I dont notice any more exhaust fumes on the trail or sitting in traffic.

The resonator would be under the bumper, so has to go. I cut them at the bend forward of the resonator. The only issue is support, if a mount isn't added to replace the resonator mount, the vibration of the unsupported pipe will crack/break the muffler.

X3, just cut the resonator. The main reason for this bumper is its high clearance and good departure angle. That resonator just hangs down way too low. I must say though, that my exhaust had a pretty good whistle to it and when I cut off the resonator, it was magnified. I lived with it for awhile but finally replaced the stock muffler with a 50 series flowmaster. Much better clearance gained over the round stock one and completely lost the whistle.

X4 on cutting, the whistle and eventually replacing with muffler. I stopped the pipe above and in front of the 4X4 Labs bumper for ultimate clearance and haven't had trouble with exhaust not clearing the vehicle. The bumper is worth the modification to the exhaust. Ah ha, found a picture...."look Ma, nothin' hangin' down, oh except for that trailer connector".

Apparently the EMS exhaust set up does not require this with this set up...
