I am trying to make decisions about mild lift/suspension upgrade to pair with the 285's. I am considering this kit:

I emailed Dobinsons and asked if they recommend aftermarket UCAs and a differential drop kit to maintain front end geometry. They responded quickly and said that with a 1.5" those pieces aren't necessary. Has anyone installed this kit, and if so, speak to the ride characteristics/offroad performance after installing?

Thanks in advance.

I recently put on some OME springs on my 02 that gave it about an 1 1/2" lift and just cranked the stock T-Bars to level out. Didn't need anything else and had a friend throw it on the alignment rack and it was still in spec. I'm also looking for some 33's in the near future.

which model of rear springs did you go with? Stock shocks? Did it change the ride/handling characteristics any?

I put on the 865's, stock Toyota shocks. Honestly it feels just the same on the road but in the rocks and trails here (SW Utah) I really noticed a lot more control of the body sway and general off road manners.

Hey 98Rustyhundy - did you decide to go with the Dobinsons? I am considering the same kit but worried it may ride too stiff. Quality looks great.

Doesn't look like you have a lot of aftermarket weight (ie winches, bumpers, sliders, roof rack etc) are you sure you need the "heavy" springs? That will make it a tad harsh, I expect, if you don't need it, at least that's the case with OME.

This is the kit that the PO installed in my LX. He did not add diff drop because it was not needed. He anticipated adding weight through bumpers and roof rack. The ride now is stiff - a lot of complaints from the family when we go for a ride but I don't mind it at all. I haven't had it off road yet but without a comparison to how it handled with AHC I'm sure I will just enjoy the drive.

Installed this kit on my now sold 01 LC. No diff drop or new UCA's. Ride was a little harsh but overall MUCH better than the original 17 year old suspension. I threw 285/75/17's (E) and that may have contributed to it being a little rough.

Be prepared to get more than 1.5 inch, especially if you're stock suspension is already sagging.

Overall good kit for the money.

Thanks for your input everyone! @ Jaysleigher- I haven't committed to a suspension system yet. We live in MI and I'm not expecting to do any serious OR, just mild trails, so the stock t-bar crank and OME 865s is sounding better and better. I think I will probably go with the 285/75R16 so I can put the spare in the stock location (it has a factory hitch). Would like to go with the 295/75R16, but from what I am reading on here, the 295 is over 33" and won't fit in the stock location. Sorry for rambling, these are my thoughts when considering lift/tires.
