For Shawn ( and anyone else who was there to hear the conversation)
I stopped by the DMV to check AGAIN the legalities of doing a motor swap in my 76 FJ40.
Shawn had mentioned that the laws had changed VERY RECENTLY and they were requiring that the only motor swaps that can be done have to be motors from the SAME manufacturer...I.E. toyota to toyota.
While there has been a change and it is AS STATED above. This ONLY APPLIES to 81 and newer vehicles. My 76 still falls under the OLD smog jurisdiction where all they will look for is a sealing gas cap, smog tail pipe readings and no visible smoke. The look for NOTHING ELSE!!

, as unbelieveable as that may seem. They then sign off a "swap form" and change the No. of cylinders in the database and the smog monkeys just do as they would for a 76.
WHEW!!!! I was a bit worried going in there on that one!!!!
Just FYI!
