Welcome Kyle!
Apparently an email is circulating to TLCA members from Kyle inviting folks to join DixieLand. Let's welcome Kyle to DixieLand.

email is below:

Dear fellow TLCA members,

My name is Kyle Massengale and I reside in Madison, Alabama. I drive a 08 FJ Cruiser TT and a 73 FJ40 and love to go on rides. We have some of the best trails right here in Alabama! For the past several years I hooked up with the a group called the Smokey Mountain Cruisers and had great experiences with them on many trips. When I looked for a group in Alabama, I found that there was not an active chapter of the TLCA in Alabama. The Deep South Cruisers has disbanded. After asking around in my area I found great interest in forming a new group. After drafting our bylaws and contacting Chuck, our TLCA regional representative, we are now ready to begin recruiting charter members.

Currently, there is no dues as we get started and see if there is interest in forming a statewide chapter with regional officers and clubs. I wanted to give any Alabama member of TLCA a personal invitation to join. I will be glad to send you more information at your request. But generally, we are to be a chapter of TLCA that brings certain benefits for events and rides. We will plan events for trial rides around the State and publish a quarterly on-line news letter with useful information about events and a ‘how to’ section.

If you are interested in becoming a charter member please send me a note and I will give you further details. If you can help organize our new chapter and you are willing to lend us your talent, please let me know that as well. Otherwise, please forgive the intrusion on your day.

Cruisin,

Kyle D. Massengale

President of Dixie Land Cruisers

Madison, Alabama

I just cc'ed several of you on an email I sent back about this. I don't really want to air a lot of this in public so if he keeps pushing it forward, as he has indicated, I would like to move some of it to the private discussion area.

Thank you for the welcome. But I must offer an apology. We were totally unaware that there was a group called by that name. I am guessing because this group is private, it is not listed on the board of State clubs. Also, TLCA is unaware of any group in Alabama by that name.

For the past few months a group in North Alabama has been meeting and discussing with the Regional Rep of TLCA in forming a Chapter. Without knowing that the Auburn group had changed its name and gone Statewide as an organized group, we meet and and chose the name Dixie Land Cruisers Association of Alabama, Inc. I was going to file the Articles with the Secretary of State as a non-profit group and we adopted our by-laws. Before I did someone mentioned that I send out a letter to all the Alabama members on the TLCA roster to see if any one else had an interest in being a part of it.

I am sorry if I have somehow upset your efforts to organize and form a group. We will gladly change our name and continue our filing. Or we would be happy to join together and complete what many of those in this group want - A recognized working chapter of TLCA. Thank you for your understanding.

I have been on this board as well as other board for 5 years now. And several of you know me and enjoyed time with the SMC group. We are all about the ride and mean no disrespect to this group.

DixieLand is not WarEagleCruisers, let's clear that up.

And it can't be ironic that it's the same name.

BUT, I'm all for an organized club! Hell I attend all the TLCA events! Usually attend as an at-large member of a neighboring club... which I'm a member of. We need representation, thanks for that!

again, Welcome!

Thanks kyle! This is one possible goal and we have been in contact with TLCA and they told us to take some time and get closer before we tried to become a recognized chapter. We have been working on that and in fact the guys in this club have become my closest friends. As for TLCA, I am not sure why they said they were unaware of this group. If nothing else the forum has been here in the open for years and I would guess most of the members on this site have been in here at one time or another. Look at the number of hits on the "what about bob" thread alone.

What Matt said!

Thanks guys! We just made the mistake of choosing a great name a couple of years too late. There are several fantastic guys in my area that love to ride and have strong organizational skills. Living in the land of rockets and engineers they are all about getting things organized and moving. They are great at building things but don't talk much.

We will pick another name since your group is already established and a close knit group. I hope to see you on the trails. Alabama has some great parks. Many are up around here. There is one off the Sipsy River that is not advertised that is great for all skills. Hale Mountain in New Market is another good one. Outside of Gadsden is a fun run. This year I will be going to Moab with a few others. If any are going we would love to caravan.

Kyle, why not join STLCA? It hosts GSMTR which is the grandaddy of all toyota events in the SouthEast. They also hold regular rides, one being last week.
I honestly see no sense creating another group up there.

Kyle, I feel like I need to reiterate the fact that we had our club organized and on the fast track at one point too and our TLCA rep put the brakes on it even against our insistence. Maybe things have changed, I know there was a big shakeup at TLCA a few years ago and maybe we got caught up in that. However, I don't really see why you insist on pushing a separate club when so many of us have been working hard behind the scenes to bring one together, but I guess you have made your mind up and want to run your club your way.

Also, what do you see as the primary benefit of being an "official" TLCA chapter? Almost all things Land Cruiser come through this forum now, even the TLCA discussion.

I think it would be good to meet in person.... where people can speak their mind.

FYI... I belong to STLCA becase we do go on rides ...and its a good group of folks...of course some people show up some of the time but that's to be expected.

I think we should hear each outher out a little bit.

Totally agree Elbert. We are a group of people who love to explore and enjoy good company as we find the not so traveled roads. It really does not matter if there is one group or several, so long as people feel comfortable in finding a group that fits their style. More groups means more opportunities to build friendships. It seems that the group here is very tight and it is a good thing to have friends you enjoy time with. We are after the same, and feel that we can offer something for others that they might enjoy but still being part of the overall family of FJ enthusiasts. Lets face it, we have seen many groups that start out with good intentions only to become an exclusive group based upon certain styles of behaviors. Other groups promises to organize rides and meeting but fail to deliver and members become fatigued with it and their enthusiasm for the sport dims.

I have been a part of a fantastic group in the past and want to be part of a well organized group again. Others have felt the same and that caused us to seek out the formation of an actual TLCA chapter which the Rep. welcomed. Being a TLCA brings a great deal of credibility to any group of FJ enthusiasts and when I told him that we were wanting to become a TLCA chapter in Alabama the idea was welcomed. Most of our members are or will be TLCA members. Our goal is to support TLCA not only in participating in events but in other areas as well.

I think it is a great idea to have a state wide chapter under certain circumstances. And after being sharply told about this group (which is not on the list of clubs) I have taken the time read the posts from the past three years on this board of the intent to do such a thing. Is it such a strike to this group that others had the same idea, with the same great name, and moved much quicker to toward the completion of this, without knowing what the other group was doing? It is a wonderful idea and will find its success in groups that people who have time and energy to plan events with all in mind.

I applaud you in the efforts and great struggle that has brought you thus far. Our meager effort will have no effect on what you have done and still plan to do. We are just a group in the forming stages. And if those that have shown interest in such a group choose to be members or not, that is all well and good. Our purpose is to provide a quality service and quality friendship to the best of our ability. We would gladly partner with you in that and become the northern chapter of Dixie Land Cruisers once it is formed. In fact I will volunteer to take care of any and all filings necessary to create a State wide chapter with regional offices having a centralized board.

You know what I do? I ride.
Meeting the Georgia Cruisers at their ride on Saturday at Morris Mtn.
I ride pretty much every weekend I can. I go to all events regardless if it's TLCA or not. I love cruisers, I love my friends that I've met through them.
Let's ride.

Although that is a little short notice for everyone...would any one consider meeting at the ACC Winter Ride the weekend of February 4th and 5th?

Yea... that might be a good thing. In the other groups (as you know) we've had some meetings "on-site"...

My driving point to meet in person is that email and msgs. posted here and other places may give someone the wrong impression etc.

My work schedule is kind of crazy but if a few folks can agree to meet at teh ACC ride I'll do my best to show up....
