On recomendation from Antoine at the counter I'm telling all my northern friends about the tire certificates they sell....

After 3 years I had a sidewall crack, leak air and require a couple plugs to hold air. My certificate was expired by 6 days so I called the online order facility to pleed. He said no problem, I drove to bellingham and Antoine took a look.

He said they would give me a brand new tire for free but because of the tread difference and the LC being all wheel drive he'd have to replace the other three too based on pro rated pricing....:D I drove home with 4 new tires for 474 us dollars including the price of new certificates for all the tires! Awesome pricing and service, two thumbs up!

next time I'll have to camp for the weekend to avoid the canadian tax....

A pic of the new tires the next day,

And they still made money.... goes to show you how screwed up our distribution is here in Canada.

Well done!

How is a guy supposed to shop local when s*** like this is happening?

Try that at KalTire!

I guess it's one of those "pick your battles" type of things. I try to shop local but when a deal comes up like that, sorry, can't pass it up.
There are certain things I will pay more for and get locally, especially when I want the customer support or service to be here. I know that I can look around for auto parts on websites and probably get them cheap, but I still prefer going to Coquitlam Auto or B&J Auto Parts to get my stuff, they always find me the best price and highest quality and no issues on warranty and they are close. But tires, sorry, over the border it is. Local tire service is average at best, some shops are good, but prices cannot be compared. Cheap electronics, over the boarder or overseas. Especially if I don't care about service or warranty. Good electronics, I get locally because I want support after I spend a lot of money.

That is just beyond outstanding service that you got.
Still not clear on the certificates though, what is a road hazard certificate? what's the point/purpose? Any time I've bought tires I just got tires, nothing else.

Its just insurance for tires above and beyond what the manufacturer offers. Its good to hear that they don't do what stores like Kal Tire have done when it comes to warranties for off road tires that were used off road.

Or Fountain Tire (Goodyear Tires) and my new MTR w/ friggen Kevlar! sigh.

So where's this Discount Tire Shop. I'll go visit them.

I had a BFG A/T replaced the same way at 4Wheel Parts. I was at River Shiver and sliced a sidewall. The next time I drove down to Washington I brought the tire and had it replaced. They did not offer to do the other 3 tires though.

The Discount Tire in Bellingham on 900 Lakeside is 100' from a Fred Meyer. Fred Meyer (competes with Costco) sells discount fuel (go inside a get a Loyalty Card).

Fred Meyer's diesel is $3.70 US gal ~ about $1.04 per liter with a 6% exchange rate penalty. Yesterday (Friday) I filled up and my 2 NATO gerries. Vancouver diesel was $1.44 per litre. Where is all this Canadian tax revenue going - our roads and congestion are still the absolute sh*ts????

On the way to Moab last April - I got my 315s balanced for $70.00 at that Discount Tire (loaded up on fuel too at Fred meyer) the tire balance deal includes Lifetime free balancing. Where in Canukistan can you get deals like these?

Are you sure you were not looking at the gas prices there glen? The diesel proves have been hovering around 1.35-1.38 for the past month or so here with gas at 1.45.... Either that or you got hosed :p

Also on the Fred Meyer, I got their loyalty card to save some money but my truck seems a little sluggish on their fuel and the truck just doesn't feel right... I'll pay the extra 10-15cents a gallon to full up at Chevron or something similar and get the mileage I normally do.

I fill up at Fred Mayer all the time, last fill after groceries i saved .40c per gallon. There regular gas runs just as good in my truck as any other. My dad fills his Duramax at Fred Mayer all the time and has seen no loss in performance or millage. The truck fuel stop just before you get on I5 in Blaine is a good place to get diesel too, its cheaper than all the other gas stations in Blaine usually, high volume turn over in there tanks and saves the drive to Bellingham.

Maybe it was just my head then, I have only ran it once... I will give it a shot and figure out my numbers than guesstimating lol

I swear people can't put in the right numbers at times, or they put supreme into the diesel field by accident

Market Fuel? I think thats the place my dad was telling me about, Its 10cents a gallon cheap if you pay by cash?

I went by it this evening. I think diesel was 3.89/gal. Up the road Chevron was 3.95. I filled a Chevron. Unless I know the places reputation, it isn't worth a few cents per gallon.

Was a tad bit disappointed with Harbor Freight. It was to be my treat today. Picked up a few items. I presume a Seattle store would be a lot bigger. Loaded up with some stuff at Costco and at La Gloria on the way back. Made it worth the drive.
