Well, after my last MTRs separated after 50% wear and then getting them warrantied from goodyear only to find out the way their warranty works it's cheaper to just buy new tires. I bought a new set through the mail from discount tire online. I also bought their replacement certificate for $30 a tire.

Soon after I slashed a sidewall in the snow on something, I've been driving around on it for quite a while with 5 plugs in it. I phoned the Bellingham discount tire store, explained the situation, they said "no problem", ordered a tire, phoned me when it came in and I headed down. They had the new tire on faster than my wife could buy a block of Tillamook from the Fred Meyer, great service at a great price!

Which style of Mt/r separated on you? Can you describe how they separated?

It was the old style. The worst tire had bumps at the shoulder of the tire every 12 or so inches where air would leak out, I gave the tire to my neighbour who works with tires and he x rayed it and found the rubber had pockets of air in between the layers which made him curious so he picked at the bumps and found it was frayed steel belt starting to work it's way out. When we pulled it off the rim it had long strands of rubber like elastic bands inside that had come loose.

Goodyear warrantied all the tires and said they would give me my tread value of 50% off their book price of the same tires. Turns out their book price was double what the tires sold for retail.

I liked the wear and road manners of the MTRs so I got the new ones with the peace of mind of a 3 year unconditional replacement warranty, it's been 1 year and a half, I'm at 70% wear, so far so good.

scuze my poor math are you saying Gy would give you 50% of 2X your retail price, in other words a new tire? Or am I misunderstanding and/or drunk?

Yes, if I understood you correctly? There book price was twice the retail price locally and 2.5 x the retail price at discount. So basically if I went through with their warranty giving me 50% off their price of 2.5X retail, I would be paying more for a new tire than just going to discount and buying one.:rolleyes:Nice warranty.:bang:
