Disconnect the Swaybars?

I looked into quick disconnects years ago. I looked into Perrson's quick disconnects years ago based on Exiled's recommendation. Unortunatly it was just after Perrson's stopped producing them. Now I just pull one link. This allows the swaybar to rotate completely without any tension. The remaining link keeps the swaybay from floping around.

Using a ratcheting wrench I can remove or attach the link back in 2 to 3 minutes.

Finding a heavier replacement bar may be tricky. But my guess would be to find a fabricater with a press and a brake and an idea for the proper steel and then maybe he could fab one up for you.
Do the quarry trucks say from Canada run sway bars? Because they are heavier they may have stouter bars?

Doc:

I picked up a sway bar from cruisers.net and all new frame mounts and misc bushings from cdan. Total price: $150 . I've yet to mount because the bar needed cleaning and paint so I'm almost there. From what I can tell, I'll now be able to turn some hard fast corners on street driving (lol...right).

unless you are running pinnacle springs (which, thankfully, you are not) you don't need your sway bars.

I ran no sway bar for a while with my pinnical lift, but the springs got too soft, and it just wasn't safe anymore.

Just curious, why are you "displeased" with Pinnical???

I've had my fair share of Nightmares with my suspension. I've replaced 2 different leaf packs, and the truck still never sat right. The truck always leaned to one side or another. (and not the normal lean...very noticable) I ended up adding some leafs to each spring pack that were customs lengths in order to compensate for saggy springs...I've also broken a spring within one of the leaf packs...

I'll NEVER buy pinnical again....that fo' suure'

you answered your own question...it's downright scary and the springs are not made to handle the weight of the 60 series. the lean is embarrassing and after spending $800, i shouldn't have to buy more springs to fix jto's crap.

so im pulling up another old thread again...

i have taken off my front sway bar and have been very impressed with the added amount of flex. im guessing at least 3" more flex on the front. The back end of my cruiser is not flexing much and i would like to improve on this. I allready know i need a longer brake line and longer breather hose. what i would like to know is what is the best setup for a rear swaybar disconnect? Should i only disconnect one side? If i disconnect both sides what do i do with the swaybar? its just going to hang down if i disconnect both sides.

pix appreciated

thanks

Disconnecting them will make a difference offroad. Whether that difference is enough to make it over obstacles you werent able to before is to be debated. Some people toss the rear and just leave the front connected. I get quite a bit of extra body roll on my 61 on the road with both removed.

You will have to disconnect both sides for the effect to be equal. Also with only one side disconnected, you can get death wobble.. This happened to me recently when one of my front links broke..

I fabbed myself up some disconnects out of 3/8 quick release pins, tubing from Home Depot and some threaded swivel ends. There are lots of examples out there. I copied a set that I got from RockStomper for my 4Runner years ago.. I'll try and snap some pics of mine.

I notice no real difference with the swaybars unhooked around town, but on the highway, especially on windy days, i feel a lot safer with them hooked up. Offroad the benefits to flex are very noticable to me. Ive got pinnacle springs but they are in good shape right now, keeping my fingers crossed.
