dirty slip yoke question from newbie

Greetings all,

Lifted up my 21 lc recently and saw mucho dust/rust/dirt on my slip yoke shaft. I don't know much about cars but doesn't this shaft move in and out? Car is hardly driven btw. Should I clean it or leave it alone? Excuse my ignorance folks.

Not a problem. The slip yoke is greased, and moves in and out. Stuff sticks to the grease. You can clean it off, but it shouldn't be an issue. I like to grease my yokes every other oil change.

I think you’d do fine to wipe off some of the crud and pump some fresh grease in. There are some threads outlining the process. One should pump in some grease, but not too much to allow the shaft to still be able to slip in. Existing threads have more info.
