I need detailed directions for wheeling sites near STL. I see Washita and Flat Nasty mentioned often. Could someone please give me some good directions to these areas and any others close to STL proper? A description of the sites would be nice too, like difficulty ratings of trails, good remote camping sites, can I let my dogs run wild, could I take some guns and do a bit of blasting somewhere remote enough. I commute from south city to Ballwin in the traffic everyday and if I don't get out with my rig - (stock 97 LC) soon I'm gonna freakin explode. -- JIM:eek:

The most stock friendly place to wheel is at Flat Nasty. On a 3-5 hour long trail called hill and dale. Flat Nasty is located in west of Salem Missouri. They are open 7 days a week. The owner is a Toyota fan.

Their website with map is located here: www.flatnasty.net. As far as guns, etc... you'd have to ask the owner. Dogs running should be no problem in the primitive caming area which is large, but no hookups for campers etc..

You can take a stock LC to Washita also, located near Farmington. But the trail maps can be a little deceiving and you could wind up on a non-stock friendy trail. The owner is working on the trail markings continiously. They have full camping facilities.

You just need to drive to one of them and check it out. You're stock LC will do just fine.

A few of us are no longer stock, would include some rocker protection and more aggresive tires. I do take my daily driver wheeling. One of the goals when we go out is to not tear anything up. Mechanically speaking, I'd bet some money you wouldn't break anything. The extra stuff just protects the truck a little bit.

As far as detailed directions, the best maps to each park are located on each others respective websites.

Of course, post up when you're planning to go (or a date range) and it may work out that others can join you. Then you have the benefit of someone experienced to follow to the park and someone to help out if you get lost in the park (or actually do break something, get stuck, etc. . . ).

Cheers!
