I know there are lots of posts on this topic generally, which I have reviewed, but I am on the fence on a specific situation and would appreciate thoughts or points I may be missing.

Long story short, after a divorce I have an 07 LC with 143k miles and an 07 Sequoia with 100k miles. I am deciding which one to keep. I am going to use the proceeds to buy a second weekender convertible car, so the more I get from the sale the better second car I can get.

The LC - w/NAV and AHC, all services up to date, fairly new BFG AT. Cleanliness is 7/10. Probably worth $19k. All maintenance is up to date (belt, water pump, fluids, recent brakes and bearings). My AHC graduation test is around 9-10.

The Sequoia - 2wd stripped out SR5, no nav or backup camera, but with added leather seats, and I added wood grain dash, front fog lights, and limited badging. Newer highway tires. So it's essentially a limited without the better wheels. Cleanliness is 8/10. I know the timing belt has been done but I am not sure about anything else including water pump. Probably worth $12k.

Both cars have only been used on pavement.

My driving habits - only about 5k miles a year around town. I maybe get off road a couple times a year when hunting, in ice a couple days a year, and out of town once or twice a year for a couple hundred mile road trip. I would like the ability though to do a long road trip.

Considerations - I have a son and the space in the Sequoia is nice. The Sequoia is totally dull. I really, really like my LC. Cost of ownership is tough. The LC has 50% more miles, more expensive parts, but is built better.

Any thoughts or other considerations would be appreciated.

I think your LC is probably worth a little more than $19k, for as little as you drive, I'd keep the Sequoia. It sounds like your new car will get the brunt of the miles anyway.

sell both , buy a LC 99, no hac or nav. buy that convertible and enjoy.

I am also in a similar situation. I have a 2004 Sequoia and a 2000 LX470. And I just picked up a 2005 GX470 with the intentions of getting rid of one of the others. I originally thought I'd get rid of the LX and keep the Sequoia because I have five kids with the oldest being 10. But my wife helped me make up my mind. She likes driving the LX better. They are both very different vehicles but like SWUtah said, you would regret getting rid of the LC, not the Sequoia...... Have you considered selling both and getting a GX? Now that I have one, I really love it. Especially with the KDSS.

Here are my thoughts. I say keep the TLC, not because I am on a TLC forum and feel like that has to be answer. You mention you have one kid. Why would you need vehicle as big as a boring Sequoia? There is a reason the TLC has more miles and worth quite a bit more.

Lastly, if it really is that much of coin toss for you how much is the convertible you are wanting and how bad do you want it over your SUV? If it takes selling the better TLC then that is what you need to do.

Thanks for the thoughts. My primary concern is probably that I'm going to end up spending big bucks to fix the landcruiser in the next 5 years or 50k miles versus the sequoia.

It's a struggle between that concern and driving the car that I want to drive.

There isn't a huge difference with the money proceeds. Either way I'll probably end up getting a weekender c6 vette.

Why would you need to spend big bucks fixing the LC over the sequoia? If its properly maintained idk why that would be a concern.

It's not a dilemma at all. Sell the Sequoia.

Totally sell the Sequoia....you are asking this question in the 100 series forum to a bunch of cruiser heads. Haha. But seriously no question, sell that pseudo cruiser!! :)

If I was in your situation, I'd sell the (gulp) LC since you'd get more money. It sounds to me you'd be happier with a weekend car and you hardly get off pavement anyway. I'm sure a divorce is tough. Get yourself a nice vert, because life is too short. GL

I'm sorry for your circumstance.
Depending on how recent this life change is, I would suggest to do nothing for now.
My second thought is to discuss it with your son, he may envision himself driving dad's cruiser or seq to high school?
Third, I'd modify Yeti's suggestion above. Sell both. The Sequioa value will get you into an '04 LC with the five speed, extra air bags and rear view camera, then the 07LC value will get you into a pretty nice convertible.

If your main concern is spending serious cash on maintenance on the LC over the Sequoia, this becomes an easy answer for me. If you have maintained it properly, there is no reason anything out of the ordinary should go wrong, so I say keep the LC.

Additionally, it sounds like you don't need the extra space of the Sequoia, so even if the LC does fetch another $7k, there are plenty of fun cars out there for $12k or so.

I noted that you already said that you prefer the LC over the Sequoia so that's another reason to keep. Having driven both (my '06 LC w/ 140k miles and my friend's Sequoia with 75k miles), the LC is world's better.

That's my .02!

You've answered your own question - life's too short to live with a dull vehicle. Keep the LC!

I could not agree more. I can't fathom owning a vehicle I didn't like. I don't care what the budget is, you can find something you like.
