For those who dont venture into the 60's forum too often....
I picked up a 10in pipe cap to use as a diff guard...came out pretty well.
It was a little deeper than I liked, so I chopped some of the back half off, and added to flare with the plasma.
In hind site, I kind of wish that I hadnt added the swoops...Not that its really gonna matter either way, but the additional protection would have been a bit better IMO.

I bought one from Iron Pig. I think it was about $150. but then again you have something I don't - skills and talent ;p

48 bucks, and I split the cost with a friend. He gets the other half. 24 bucks, a couple of hours, a few cut off wheels and some electricity. Welding is hands down the GREATEST skill that I have learned for this past time.
I appreciate the compliment on the "talent", but...I just do what I can with what I have available. This activity is NOT cheap (as we all know).

Might I add that the welds pictured were done upside down with my head under the housing. :D

Totally NON functional unfortunately with the exception of allowing easier drain plug access. That was totally asthetics based. Id probably had done it different if I were to do it again.
It will work though.

Nice! The entire rear diff cover on my rear axle is a 1/2" thick sewer pipe cap. I had to cut the old cover completely off in order to fit the toyota ring gear. Good job!
 
I added a new ding to the front diff this weekend, I think it was in the big puddle right before the slabs.
 
Diff guard looks good Keith. So after Rubicon, does it have some fresh scratches on that fresh paint?

Yeup!
Not as many as I had anticipated thought. However, I did take a hard knock on it.
My sliders and rear bumper took a BEATING, and Im happy and PROUD to report that both held up GREAT!
You always kinda wonder about the welds you do...

Nice job Keith! I still have my driveline buzz and plan to start experimenting (again :rolleyes:) with the rear pinion angle. If all else fails I'm thinking of a DC shaft as a last resort which will entail redoing the coil spring perches and diff fill plug. I'm not looking forward to yanking the rear end (again :rolleyes:) but if that's what it will take to get rid of my rear driveline buzz/vibe I guess that's what I'll have to do.

Not sure although the rear output bearing was on its way out and needed to be replaced. It had a heat damaged shim washer (internal to the t-case assembly) that was obvious. The pinion bearing was IMO definitely caused by the vibe.
