I have a timing tool for diesels. It uses an inductive pickup to create the signal. Simply loosen the number 1 injector line at the injector. Then pull the nut away from the injector. Install the correct adapter at the injection line and tighten it onto the injector. Then connect the wire to the equipment. Connect to 12v and ground and you're ready to go. I haven't used this in a long time so I don't remember how to operate the unit but it's pretty straight forward because it didn't come with instructions. It will read RPM and timing degree. I used this on my 3B I had at the time and may have used it on my 2L-T. Purchased this from a user on toyotadiesel.com years ago but that site is pretty inactive now.

$100 shipped in the lower 48.
Also included is an injector line from a 3B that has damage that can be modified to static time the pump

I just replied to fellow mud guy who was asking what to use this for. Below is a copy of the message detailing how I used the tool.

What I used this for -- I used it to confirm that the advance in my pump was working as intended. As rpm increases, timing should advance. This tool tells you how much advance from TDC. I was also using it to aid in checking/adjusting injection pump internal pressure. Over time, internal pressure can decrease due to wear and ULSD fuels. The dynamic timing within the pump is driven by rpm and internal fuel pressure. A lack of internal fuel pressure can reduce total timing advance. This can decrease economy and power. So this tool is useful for tweaking/troubleshooting.
