I was just browsing through our surprisingly large digital library at the office, and noticed we have a copy of the 'Diesel Engine Reference Book, Second Edition'. It's been broken down into 44 pdf files, which I'm presuming are chapters or sections, each file being approx. 2mb or 62,475k for the entire directory.
There are some interesting looking sections, such as 'The Theory of Turbocharging' or 'Dual Fuel Engines'.
Anyone interested? And no I'm not stealing, some IT guy gave these to us a long time ago.

I'm interested in both of those topics and would love some light reading.

Smoke signals

Well after reading the chapter on smoke (I referenced it back to here), it looks like my fuel has probably been cranked up by the PO.
One of these days I'll get that looked at, which begs the question, who is 'the best' to tinker on a 1HDT for this kinda thing?

Someone with a VE pump timing gauge tool to ensure the timing is set properly. I spent a lot of $ on getting my IP rebuilt by Valley Fuel Injection only to find out they "set the timing by feel." They didn't even use their dyno to set it up. The mechanic just told me he took it for a run to get the feel of it. I am sure that's what the Bosch engineers had in mind when the designed the VE IP.

Phil says that Jim's Fuel Injection is good place to go. I have also heard good things about a diesel fuel injection tuning shop out in Surrey near NW Fuel Injection. Can't remember the name of it. This place has a dyno, so they will set everything back to factor specs and then can play with it according to results on the dyno and exhaust analyser. From the posts on the Aussie forms, this is how the better diesel fuel injection shops do it down under.

Jim does really nice work, but he is pricey. Be sure to get a quote before having work done. To rebuild the four injectors in my 13B-T I was charged $763 for labour & parts.

I figured the price wouldn't have been so much, as he only charged me $28 for an all metal priming pump for the 3B.

Nice guy though, and good to chat with. really knows his stuff.

 Not too far off what Valley Fuel Injection quoted me me for the TD4.2 - only $600 but that would be 6 injectors not 4. Got brand new OEM ones and a CAV filter assemblyfrom Hiflo in Australia for $350 US including shipping.

Jeff, the timing tool for the VE type rotoary pump is available on ebay and elsewhere for under $200 US: Tool for timing VE type diesel fuel injection pump - eBay (item 370197706762 end time May-15-09 14:52:07 PDT) A guy I know in Ottawa has also built his own injector test bench using a commonly available parts for rebuilding his own injectors. He's bought OEM nozzels and shims. With the bench he can check the spray pattern and set the correct breaking pressure - the two most common issues on indirect injection mechanical injection. I think the bench just cost him a bit over $100 to build with mostly new parts.

Wow!

I went to Diesel Auto in Maple Ridge for injector rebuild in my 2H, 360 bucks total for 6 injectors.

Like I'm gonna go anywhere near my own fuel system....
