Hi All,

Since there's no FAQ page here and I can't find a similar thread after a few searches, here goes:

Does anyone here own a 70 with a 3ltr 1KZ-T?
What kind of mileage/fuel efficiency do you get with it? MPG or KPL is fine. I'll work with either.

Looking at possibly buying a 1995 1KZT and fuel efficiency is one of many considerations.

Any other tips/warnings regarding that model would be very helpful too.
Thanks.

I currently own one.
They have what could be described as a weakness in the cooling system which results in cracked heads if abused.
Keep them cool and maintained and they go great... Overheat it and you are dicing with death..
You say a 1KZ-T or the 1KZ-TE ?? as there is a difference...
The -T is a non ecu controlled injection pump.
The -TE is electronically controlled and with this one the ECU's generally fail with Capacitors leaking at about the 10 year mark... Can be repaired (Well down here NZ) cheaply.
I have the LWB and from memory it used to typically return 9 to 10 kilometer per L DOH ! at freeway / highway use.

eh.... I'll have to ask the current owner which engine it actually is. On the ad, it just says 1995 3.0ltr KZJ. I'm hoping it's the KZT (not the TE)

And I'm assuming you mean 9-10 Kms to the litre, instead of the other way around!!

My 1993 Prado KZJ71, 1KZ-TE Automatic cruising on Highways returns 11Lts per 100 Kms, towing a 4.4Mt caravan uses 17Lt per 100 Kms

That is astounding that you tow 4400kg with a KZJ71!! Pictures? I tow a 1500kg caravan with my LJ78, and I thought that was on the heavy side. 1KZ-TE power must be nuts.

As above, reads 4.400 meters long, approx. 1.500kg, NOT 4.400kg;)

Ahaha, thanks for clearing that up. I thought you meant Mt = metric tons. (4.4 metric tons).

Thanks for the picture, looks like a nice setup you have there.

My setup is for my MD and I'm in a Powerchair, the post is a fixed mobility hoist ( up & down and sideways ). The Prado seat swings out and in, so enables me to transfer from power chair into the Cruiser. The alloy ramps on the Van also allow me to drive up into the Caravan. Cheers Kevin

Wow, that's ultra cool. Did you design that hoist setup yourself, or is it something that you can buy? (this is completely off-topic, but that's a unique mod that I've not seen before).

It is off topic but its your question so here goes, Seat was made by" Gentle Giant" for fitting into the rear of a mobility van, it swings in and out and lowers and raises. and I modified it to suit my needs. with help from great friends. The side lift was made from parts laying around my workshop, travels up and down .600mm.
In the rear of the Prado I have made a swing out hoist to lift my power chair. Cheers
