Due to a couple of reasons, the head of my 4BT needs to come off. It needs a broken manifold bolt extracted / thread repaired, hot tanked, exhaust valve spring replacement, valves checked and also needs to be ported. This is both a step in preventative maintenance and also in preparation for 30+psi of boost:grinpimp:

THoff I've heard is a decent machine shop, but do they do diesel / industrial motors? Any diesel specific machine shops in Raleigh?

Thanks for the recommendations!

your best bet would be to find a cummins shop..... after that any place that does engine work on tractor trailers could do it.... but really that isn't a complicated engine .... most machine shops could do the work.

The closest Cummins shop is in Kenley, so its a bit of a drive, but not too bad. I sent them an email, good idea.

You are right though that these are simple machines. Does anyone have a machine shop recommendation?

you ever thought of doing an NV4500 out of a dodge in that thing. Will bolt right up and give you a wicked low first gear.

That's the plan actually, a nv4500 out of an early GM (6.31:1 first gear) or complete dodge setup (5.7:1 first). Leaning towards the dodge setup just because its going to be easier to find the flywheel, adapters, etc.

Know of anyone parting out a mid 90s cummins ram 5 speed? Any in local junk yards?
