2003 GX470. For some back ground I replaced the seal on my CDL actuator a few years ago. Just recently I've had an intermittent CDL light blinking randomly. CDL is not engaged light just flashes occasionally during normal street driving. I checked the actuator, and all looks good in there (no oil). Need to get around to chasing wiring or switch. So to the point I was wheelin and got in a tough spot up against a rock downhill with the transfer case locked and when I gave it some gas nothin.... except grinding. My buddy gets out and says it's your transfer case making noise. I unlock the CDL and it drives normal. So I'm thinking either the locking ring inside was not fully engaging both gears. My understanding is there shift fork moves a sleeve that locks two gears together rather than allowing the torque split F to R, meaning the actuator wasn't timed correctly or the chain somehow is slipping? unlikely. Haven't been able to get the CDL to lock up again, light just blinks, so I can't replicate problem. Really two seperate issues. I need to get in the actuator again and doulble check that it is timed correctly with the shaft. How bad do you think the transfer case is messed up? I seldom need to lock the CDL but do want it to work when needed.
Also not really a new member but it's been a few years and my account was no longer active so I've re joined. Hi!
