ok have a 82 , FJ60 and want to make it a seasonal running offraod only ...what needs to go what needs to stay and does anyone have a picture of there compartment afterwards? I have a chiltons but doesn't say , THIS IS HOW TO REMOVE IMMISONS GARABAGE ....Any help would help alot

If you check the technical section you'll find a schematic for a 84 2F desmog that was done by Jim C several years ago. Basically he's left only the fuel evap and spark advance circuits - the rest of the smog junk can get pitched. Best bet is to get a FSM and emissions manual specific to your model year so you can figure out what's what. There should also be a emissions plate under the hood to help you figure the hose routing if it's not too faded. Biggest issue will be removing the air pump and adding an idler pulley for the v-belt - removing the rest of the hardware is

Before you do anything though I'd recommend taking some pictures of how it looks now in case you have to back track if you can't get the motor running quite right.

Good luck,

Ming

Mail Jim C direct FJ40Jim@aol.com. I usually have him modify the carb for NON USA porting then follow his diagram.

Honestly, if the emissions stuff works I dont see that much improvement by removing it.

Great tip I picked up off of this board(JMan ?) ...

If you don't need power steering or AC ... you can ditch the complete smog pump assembly and use the AC belt to drive the alt. & water pump. Neat trick.

Cheers,
Cahil

P.S. Might work only for late model 60's as there was a AC compressor change over. But then again ... it's only parts ...
