So my smog pump just locked up on me and I'm thinking my best option is to go ahead and desmog. Anyone have an idler in the Austin area, or should I just order the complete kit from MAF? I toyed with the idea to just gut the pump, but I'd rather just clean it all up.

Search on this forim, or google jim chenowith. Ithink his email address is fj40jim@aol.com if i am not mistaken. He knows all about this and has info. He sells an idler that replaces your smog pump and other stuff you will need. There is a lot to it when you desmog. Dont underestimate it. But mine runs much better on the highway now. Jim also re-arced my distributor for the desmog. But he is in Ohio. He also specializes in rebuilding carbs. I have been running the MAF ceramic coated header for 10 years. Still is in good shape. But, i did have to have the gasket replaced 2 years ago.

+1 on Jim Chenoweth; he is the de-smog guru and parts guy for sure.

There are some good threads on the 60 forum that explain it all. I used them and Jim's parts to de-smog my 40 and I'm very happy with the results.

Thanks guys. Decided to go with the kit from Man-a-fre. I installed the pulley myself and took it to LCSP to finish it up.
