Any info out there on if there is a real difference in the Toyota reman units versus the ones direct from Denso? I just received a Denso reman starter and alternator (parts inventory since I have two 100-series trucks), which both look really good. Both reman'ed here in the USA. I am told by my local Toyota parts man that all the equivalent Toyota units are done by Denso. Is there any real difference? Any knowledge out there among the TLC faithful?

TIA

Both alternator and starter can be rebuilt. The starter is much easier to rebuild than the alternator. If you are thinking of replacing your starter save some cash and buy the contacts and replace. YouTube is a great resource. Again the alternator is a bit more complex to rebuild but it can be done.

I bought a new remanufactured starter for my 80 series. Then I found out I could've just replaced the contacts. I assume it can be done to our 100 series as well.

Yes, Toyota uses Denso units when the truck is assembled. They are the OEM part.

The question is, when we get a replacement part from the Toyota dealer, I understand it to be a unit reman'd by Denso, so why not just buy a unit directly from Denso (available from from all sorts of places)? Is there any known difference in a unit Denso remans for sale under its label versus ones they reman for sale through Toyota?

I'm not bothering with contacts, I just want to have a solid, reliable, reman unit on the shelf ready for R&R...
