A good day to all! Anyone has experienced replacing speedometer cable on a 70 series? Where is it connected? Speedometer cable part number? Any info will be appreciated...

Right hand side of t/case from memory. You can use one off a 60 series,Hilux,4runner or even some Toyota cars, just make sure its the right length.
If the cable is broken you can get repair kits.

I just did this a few weeks ago.

I ordered a new extra long speedo cable from John at Radd Cruisers. I have the marlin toybox installed and wanted the extra length.

The routing of the cable underneath the truck is easy... it unscrews from the rear output of the t-case, and there are a small number of clips that secure the cable in place.

The tricky bit it getting it up through the floor and behind the dash. I had the instrument cluster removed. The cable feeds up through a rubber boot in front of the transmission... it's actually under the dash, kind of behind some of the heater tubing, which I had to remove. I had to also peel back some of the carpet from under the center dash to reveal the rubber boot. Getting the cable through there was the worst of it. Running it up through the dash to the instrument cluster was pretty easy. All in all... it was a 1-2 hour job and more frustrating than actually techniclly difficult.

The real frustrating part was that it wasn't the cable that was bad... it was the gear in the rear output. I bought a new one of those a few weeks ago, and THAT fixed my 'no speedo' problem. My old speedo cable was just fine. grrr...

Thank you guys for your response; this is very informative and I now know what to expect!

My BJ74 has an automatic transmission.

Does anyone know the length of the BJ74 speedo cable or have a part number from one that worked?

If I can get the length I can just order another Toyota one in the proper length.

I have the Toyota part number for the BJ74 A/T speedo cable but it doesn't cross reference to anything other than other 70 series Cruisers with an auto trans.
