Where?
I wheeled the road to the right of the green bridge in the t e r c e l.. it was challenging, no carnage. The beach spot was clanified. We went down to the end. The Illi' is just a pretty river. Not as nice as the Smith or Chetco but nicer than the Rogue or Applegate, although it's nice and close to the dam.. Where did you guys end up?
If you took the little road on the right immediately next to the green bridge it wanders down to a few campsites near the river and comes to a quick end- I know 'cuz that's where I went first(having only been there once). Met the same "clan". the turnoff to where we were is about a 100 yards or so BEFORE you get to the bridge on the right. It climbs a little and then eases it's way through a few rocky and narrow spots and ends basically right where Deer Creek meets the Illinois. Most of the spots there were also occupied but I pulled up right after Camo(Jim) got there and we clamored down to the water with all our gear. The water was fine but significantly lower than the last time I was there but still plenty deep for diving and floating around practicing for McGrew. Plenty sunburned but had fun. Good to finally meet Jim!! I did not try to cross Deer Creek although it would have been a cinch being about 8" deep- not like last time Bobby met that rock. There were also about 6 vehicles camped on the other side that said they had come down the road on the opposite side(the road from Selma that goes down to Store Gulch). I was under the impression you could not get down that side, it having been "closed" by the FS. If open that is a much faster way into Deer Creek. No sign of John Law anywhere. Deer Creek and the Illinois river are pretty Kief, I agree. I was gonna launch the kids at the green bridge to float down but I suspect they would have been walking quite a bit. Not enough water to have "fun". Thanks to Jesse my truck ran great- new Tranny and all!!![]()
