Ok I need help. I have owned 2 HDJ81's with the 1HD-T diesel motor and loved them. I now want to get back into a land cruiser and want a 100 series. My problem is the diesel HDJ101 is about $7 to $10k more expensive than the gas. I just don't think I can justify that, but I know ZERO about the gas models. I think I would want the 4.7 L V8, right? How are these for reliability? Remember I'm used to the diesels which are bullet proof for 500k or more miles, and they don't have a computer, which always scares me. How computerized are they? Are there any known issues with them? I like doing my own work, so that's important too, how "garage mechanic" friendly are they? I assume there are loads of upgrades available as this motor was actually sold in North America? I have also found a couple of 05's that are a reasonable price... Any thoughts? Advice? thanks in advance, James.

More electronics in the petrol than the diesel, not that that means anything, all vehicles these days have multiple ECU's.
If you can get a euro spec with variable nozzle turbo go for it, check out the power available from some chip options here 206kW (280CV) or lower ones available
