The whole thing that started the mess with the tailgate. Had I not got a hair up my ass to debling the license plate light assembly, I never would've found the rust. Now I'm glad I did because I know it was repaired and repaired right. Anyhoo, here ya go, a deblinged tailgate:

I masked off the TOYOTA, lightly blasted the assembly to remove bits of surface rust and rough up the chrome so the primer would stick, primed (about 4 thin layers) and as an experiment, painted it a gloss black as opposed to the flat I used for the rest of the trim. Honestly, I doubt it'll hold up and I'll probably be redoing it with flat black, but we'll see. I also used a metallic silver/chrome paint in the areas where the lightbulbs go, and that with a addition of clean lenses makes a HUGE difference in how well it illuminates the license plate. Nice bright, even light. Eventually the bulbs will be replaced with LEDs though :D

nice, this is actually a project i was planning on knocking out today or tomorrow. i did my grille similarly, but used the duplicolor adhesion promoter too and it's held up great over the last few months thus far. even pressure washed it to get the bugs off and no chips.

i don't see why that shouldn't hold up on your rig there, it's not exactly the most used/ridden with road debris area. suns your only problem and that'll take forever to effect it.
