In a couple of weeks we're heading to Death Valley. Two years ago we tried to go up Cottonwood Canyon outside of Panamint Springs. It was too flooded from the heavy rains that we only made it half way up. Has anyone done this canyon in the past six months or year? If so, how far did you get?

I was there last spring (March 07)...no problems getting through, made it all the way to the cottonwood stand at the end of the trail. We camped at the dome...good times

Thanks for the info there Dieselbigot. We'll give it a try. Two years ago, after the big wet spring, the wash was about 5 feet deep and not crossable without a bunch of shoveling on the side arroyo.

Tons of areas to camp out in that area. You have to go up Cottonwood about 8 miles per Mitchell's book to dry camp. Do the standard dez thing. Keep going until you can't. If that doesn't work for you, go one canyon over...
