Bought a 2001 Maxima that has lived in St. Louis all it's life. No real rust on the body, but the undercarriage has surface rust on it. I'm having a shop put a new clutch in and they are having a time with most bolts, not something they are used to down here.

What can I do to stop the rust? I'm invisioning some product that I can spray on the entire undercarriage.

You complaining that nobody has answered your question in 14 hrs when most were asleep??? lol

If you live in an area where crap does not rust much then you will be fine.

damage is done.

You could power wash it and reundercoat it, but that sounds like more trouble than it is worth IMHO

You can get a product at any paint shop, essentially a rust converter, folks can debate the usefulness, put it on let it dry and cure paint over it or use a new undercoat to encapsulate the rust, good to go. The converter is phosphoric acid basically. cheers, larry

Only real thing you can do Greg is very lightly sandblast it maybe with play sand then undercoat it with a decent product.

Use very little air and take aluminum foil and cover all vital parts like wires sensors ....etc.

encapsulating rust really does not help down the line with like removing bolts etc.
