HI folks,

The dash dimming wheel to the side of the steering wheel on the plastic trim that sits at the bottom of the instrument cluster doesn't do anything. There is no change, it basically will just spin from one side to the other. I don't know if these are easy enough remedy, I was struggling to find a diagram on partsouq, I wondered if this was part of the cluster assembly itself but pictures suggest otherwise. Any thoughts?

Edit - found the part (84119-60130)

Any thoughts you have are appreciated :)

Thank you!

The plot thickens!
I watched some videos, saw how easy it was to remove the lower trim by the instrument cluster (speedo) and popped it out.

The dash light dimmer wasn't plugged in - that would explain why it doesn't work. I searched around and checked each strand of the loom but they are all plugged in, except for this plug, but it's bigger than the socket on the back of the dimming switch - any ideas? I also popped the trim nearest the dash below the steering wheel and couldn't see the plug hiding there. I don't believe it didn't have it originally!?

I thought about pulling the cluster, all the videos suggest you just remove the top and bottom cover on the steering column behind the steering wheel and then two screws below the cluster hold it in place. I went to do this and then noticed this nice sight where someone (the previous owner who removed it earlier this year to get bulbs replaced) has put in two screws to hold up the speedo.

I noticed there is a screw each side of the cluster at the top that is missing, these aren't removed in the videos I watched, are these required to hold the cluster in situ? I'm not clear why they've had to screw it in like this.

Thanks

Here are the two screw holes above the cluster, does anyone know if these will normally play a part in securing the cluster upright? If so, any chance anyone has a part number of the screw?

After posting the above, I decided to look back at the trim again that goes below the cluster, I then began to think it might be the wrong one for the car, perhaps an earlier model that someone had swapped over onto this or something when trying to replace it.

I decided to find a picture of the part mentioned in my first post, and low and behold my dimmer wheel is the wrong one for my car! The image below for the correct one shows a socket which would fit the plug on the loom! The trim is correct, the dimmer wheel is not.

This car has had a bit of a life before me, and it feels like every time I dig a bit deeper it's had something else done wrong on it, but at least I now know and can get the part ordered.

Howdy! Just checking in on this, I've recently imported a 1999 VX Limited from Japan and my dimming wheel is completely missing! there's a blank plate in the spot it's meant to be. I've yet to go searching for the plug but thought it was super weird.
