OUCH!

Did my first cross race after the urging of my bosses at Sports Authority. They got me a Bianchi San Jose single speed to ride, and a ride to the race which was in a nice vineyard here in the San Luis Obispo area. Basically an offer I couldn't refuse.

First off, the course was pretty intense, creek crossings, deep rutted rocky descents more suited for my mountain bike and some rather steep uphills. I regretted the 42:17 gearing on the hills but made ground on flats since I had to hammer the whole time.

Overall it was pretty fun, but totally draining. The race was 45 minutes in the Cat 4 race. Great atmosphere and good people, though you cross riders are a bit strange...

So who else rides cross, don't be scared to admit you like to get dirty on them skinny tires!

CHEERS!

I raced w/ an Empella Bonfire SL but refuse to do it w/ I'm out of shape! CX is just too damn hard otherwise! hehe

it's a lot of fun once your body gets used to the shock. single speed- damn! I need to row thru some gears! :)

I used tufo tubular clinchers and loved them. I recommend them and experiment w/ tire pressures.

If I wasn't such a fat ass and had money to drop on another bike, I'd love to try it. I almost bought a San Jose off CL a while back for a commuter... Looks like a sweet bike.

I'm buying a Salsa La Cruz next month. I raced a few xc mtn bike races when a cross bike would have been an advantage. Why carry a 30 lb bike loaded with mud up a slippery hill? I used to ride my road bike off road quite a bit and actually liked climbing fireroads on it mo betta.

I hoping I'll be in shape to do some races next season.

My wife loves cyclocross. She has a Rock Lobster frame that I built up for her.

I am too much of a fatass to do it. Looks fun though.
