I have a slightly leaking front driver CV, possible tear in the boot. But I am also getting a slight click (just one click) while backing down the driveway and the wheel is at almost full lock, right when the truck flexes to meet the level ground. It only happens once and I am getting zero clicking or ride change under normal driving conditions. I am thinking just refill the grease and get a new boot, see how it goes…should I remove the cv and replace?

Are you sure it's the CV that clicks?

I'd guess the boot has torn right at the clamp. When you pull the CV to reboot, clean it really well and check the balls and the cage for any unusual wear, scarring, etc. If they look good repack and try it, hopefully the noise is due to low grease level and goes away or is unrelated. On the plus side a CV reboot kit from Toyota is about $50 so if you still have issues after rebooting you're only out $50 plus your time.

At first (before I knew the cv was leaking) i thought the front spring wasnt seated correctly just due to the popping sounds and it only happening when the suspension flexes in that certain area…but the spring looks fine. I’ll buy the kit and pull the boot of and have a look see.

The steering stops are metal on metal. I searched high and low for a clunk that only happened as I backed out of driveway and the suspension articulating I was entering full lock.

I evaluated control arms, a water line cover in the road, CV, and I gave up for a really long time until I spotted the metal/metal rub on the front driver-side steering stop.

I acknowledge a clunk and click are different, but it may still be worth considering. Both of my original CVs leaked grease after lift.

I’m ganna check out the steering stop when i replace the boot this weekend- ganna try and replace it with out removing the entire cv to minimize oil loss, but it never works out the way you plan. Fingers crossed. Much appreciated.
