Couldn't wait till daylight to crawl underneath my new 2006 UZJ100. Got it home this evening (shipped in from Florida) and peaked underneath using a flashlight. Noticed the axles - ? connected to the CV joints/boot where moist with oil/grease. Is there a normal amount of grease that will collect on the axles or should they be bone dry?

If the CV joints/boot are leaking, does anyone know if this can be corrected by warranty (Platinum Lexus warranty) I purchased the extended warranty through the Lexus dealership where I purchased the Land Cruiser. Of course, when they are selling you the extended warranty, they say it will cover just about everything. Just wondering if anyone knows whether this is a coverable item.

Thanks

Don't know about the warranty, but they should be dry. That's not to say you actually have a problem. My guess is a reclamp with some good band clamps and you should be good to go. Search here, there's a ton of info on this. When I got mine there was a bit of grease on the axles. I just squirted some more in and re-clamped.

If the CV joint is leaking, the grease is being expelled, just like an oil leak. However, a CV only has 300 gms of grease and doesn't get topped up. If you have platinum warranty, get onto it now, get them to either replace the CV's or reboot them. Cv's leaking grease is not "normal", it may be common after time or jacking of suspension, but not normal. If it was a new vehicle under warranty and it leaked in the 3rd year they would fix or replace. Same should go for extended warranty.
That reminds me, I'd better fix mine!

Check out your warranty paperwork, I believe that Toyota considers cv's a wear item, which excludes their coverage, but I am sure that if that is the case, and they just need rebanded, the dealer would gladly cover that cost just to keep you happy. If there is indeed a cut, they may comp u the labor or meet you in the middle. You have a lot of power right now being so close to your buy, don't hesitate, take it in right away and make sure they earn your continued business ;-/
