Take both clamps off and slide the boot down the shaft. Use a cleaner to remove old grease and wipe out. Slide the boot back on and clamp.

I've been wondering if you can remove the C-clip, compress the axle and remove it without pulling the knuckle... That would allow a semi-rebuild without pulling major components...I still need to swap CV's and this may be the time to experiment. Thoughts? The CV can compress quite a bit, maybe just enough to slide the cage/bearings out. Of course shock unbolted, wheel cranked, and lifted off the ground.

Nick - not gonna happen. You will spend more time trying then just breaking things down.

^ ill give this a shot. What cleaner do you suggest using? I have brake/parts cleaner but I feel like that would be too tough on the boots.

CV kit grease part #

FWIW, here is a pic of the tubes of grease in the CV kit from when I did mine recently. Part numbers are visible if you want to check with the dealer by part #(though they may only come in the kit). I did dump the ear type clamps for SS screw type ones to stop the grease from seeping.

Thanks for the info. The dealers gave me part numbers but stated that its not sold individually. Again what did you use to clean the old grease from the rubber boots? What type of cleaner.
