I recently bought a 2005 LX 470 and the dealership replaced the CV axles. About a week later, I went under to do some other stuff and when I removed the front skid plate I saw this gap between the driver's side CV axle and the differential. Is that gap bad? The gap only exists on one of the axles.

I can try to take a peak under mine this weekend. I rebanded my CV's last spring and don't recall there being any gap.

BTW, welcome from another Dayton member!

These are hard to get right (especially aftermarket ) However, if your front diff isn't leaking then it is more than likely seated correctly. Had to take my '03 back to shop 3x.

Mine has a noticeable gap on PS, has been like that for years and no leaks until recently. (original CV and boots). I wouldn't worry, just check during your routine maintenance. I went about a new rotor/hub/brake job last weekend that has turned into rebooting both CV axles. DS inner boot torn, and PS showing a slight leak at the gap next to dust shield. Figured I'd just do both. It's important to order these inner oil seals for CV removal, Part # 90311-47013- they are not included in the reboot kit.

I figure my 99 is how old, and with 260k, the CVs just now need new boots. The DS CV is now all rebooted, I couldn't find any signs of wear to bearings. Back on the truck for a few more miles with new grease and boots.
