Hi Guys, just after some info and pics on how and where to cut rear quarter as to fit sliders. any info would be a great help as i dont want to start cutting untill i know it is right.

Cheers
Richard

I use an air saw. You could use a nibbler if you want but it would be awkward for the back sections.

I cut them even with the bottom of the tailgate.

I hope you have rust issues. No way I would cut mine if they were not rusty.

This is on my list as well. I plan on incorperating it with my rear bumper. Not my sliders.

The RH side is tricky as you have the filler neck there to contend with.

Are you guys boxing it in after cutting, or are you leaving the fender to flap in the wind.

I cut mine on a bit of an angle starting near the curved area below the tail light and then sloping down to the wheel arch. I am probably a good 7 inches up at the wheel well.

I had to do some fancy bending around the filler neck and then had to weld up all the seams.

This pic is before I did some bondo work to smooth the welds. Also it is painted with POR-15. Hard to see the point at which I cut and welded. I basically put a flat piece underneath with flange bent into it to line up with the inside rocker.

You can "Leave it to flap". Once you cut it, the inner quater is open to the outside. You have to weld a panel in across the bottom.

Rust? That's one reason to cut the quarters. But the real reason is to improve the clearance under the tail end and replace the dent sensitive sheetmetal back there with impervious structural steel.

Rust is the only reason I can see unless they are bashed all to poo.

Someone makes a rear bumper with protection for an uncut rear 1/4. I think it may have been profits?

If I were to wait 'til after the quarters were bashed to bob them and install wrap around bumpers... They'd get bashed on stuff I could drive right over other wise and the damage would extend above where I cut for the bob, and I would have to fix that as well as.

If you're gonna wheel a '6x series then a bob and wrap is a must do. Doing it before you crunch the tail end is a lot cheaper, simpler, cleaner.

Hey thanks for the info, i will probbly weld a plate on the bottom just to finish it nice. No i dont have rust issues, but as Mark W said clerance issues are my reasson, also to lift the wrap around bumper a bit for a snugger fit other wise it will look dumb.
