Now that I have finally started pulling the FJ45 apart I’m starting to think about assembly. I’ll be doing the 60 series steering and I want to avoid the dreaded death wobble Should I be considering a cut and turn or should I just go with shims?

Is this going to cause a big problem with my pinion angle? I’ll be running an H55 which is a bit longer which will give me a little more driveshaft in the front.

I’ve got 3.5” Alcan springs. I was planning on using stock shackles however Alcan said to wait until I install the springs to see if I will need a longer shackle. I know this will have an effect on the castor angle.

So who in the club has done it on a SUA rig? Anyone have any thoughts or opinions?

Jason,

Did it to my rig, 4" Sky Jacker SUA. I did 5 degrees of castor on mine and have a slight wobble at 35 mph. I am going to try 3 degrees on the rig I'm working on now. Stock is one degree. There is all kinds of info on this if you search 'Mud. I personally do not like the aluminum shims that are out there, if you can find steel ones go with that. I type to damn slow, give me a call if you want to chat.

Jason I got 4" lift springs and 1" over stock shackles and run a shim on my front springs and the steering is fine.I don't think the angle will be big enough to warrant a cut and turn. on the rear since I swapped the fj60 axle under and was able to set the perches I did not have to run shims. the fronts are what matter just need to get the diff level and pointing back and then its just a matter of making sure the angle your drive shaft will take won't bind the ujoints but I seriously think you won't have any issues with that with the configuration you are using.
HTH Jason

I did do a little searching. Trollholl's thread in the FAQ wasn't that helpful as he was doing a SOA.

Junior I will give you a buzz at some point to discuss.

Rick, thanks I might take you up on the offer.

Jason, thanks for the input. I guess the best thing is to get the springs under it and look at pinion angle.
