land of enchantment, at least for now
Don't look Dan, you may be jealous. But for the right price, they could be yours. :)
Mike, Greg, do they match my stripes?

David -

Love the troopy! I hope I didn't miss a viewing at the meeting at Ali's? I can't wait to see it up close.

I see you have the rare "bent rain gutters from too heavy a roof rack" option.

Phucker..............I want my curtains back..............

That IS my favorite color....;)

David,
You are occupied with interior decoration when there are engines to rebuild and differentials to fix?

Who?? ?? ?? Me?

-Mike-

Yes - as I recall you were somewhat giddy as you haven't been able to talk curtains in awhile.

How much was shipping anyway? Is there a website or something you can refer us to?

Yes, I know. My curtain buddy is on vacation again. Pity.

Hey David -

We'd love to hear some more details about the Cruisers you bought, how you arranged for purchase and shipping, and how taking delivery and the trip back from CA went. Through the grapevine, we've heard you got two troopies, but are selling one? It sounds like you are repairing mechanical issues?

Some time when you've got a few minutes, inquiring minds want to know... (or you could always sub-contract the story telling to Juane, if he's got some time).

Concur...

Initially not much different than buying a vehicle sight unseen in the states--search online classifieds/ebay, call/email sellers, then wire them your money and hope they hold up their end. I bought one from a private seller and one from a dealer. Had them transported to Melbourne where Blue Freight took care of export requirements then I wired them a bunch of cash before they boarded the ship. About 33 days on the water and they were in Long Beach awaiting Customs. Apparently you don't know what customs will do until it's about to happen. Mine they decided to do "intensive" inspections. I'm not sure what that consists of because the '83 still has lots of Aussie mud in the frame, on the body mounts, etc. and they went through inspections no problem. While they were on the water, I talked to a few brokers until I settled on KWE. When they arrived I had to pay another shipping company for handling the receiving (even though they are in New Jersey). And after the broker filed my documents and obtained clearance from Customs, I paid them some money and picked up the paperwork to pick them up at the dock. Lots of variables exist and I'm told the shipping companies will nickel and dime you for things like cleaning the vehicle, jumpstarting, etc, and it may not even need it. Then Customs supposedly charges different rates depending on the type of inspection. When we went to the broker's office, the guy that helped us thought they billed me incorrectly as it appeared to be for only one vehicle and the inspection fee was not included. So I may get hit with another bill, we'll see.
What else? Vehicles need to be 25 years or older. DOT and EPA clearance forms are 1 page each. Broker filed them for me, but there are fees for EPA and DOT, duties based on the value of the vehicle, charges from the broker, and other fees. They don't have titles, so you need their registration papers and a bill of sale. I found you have to have original rego docs or NM MVD will not register it. So I am waiting on originals now from both sellers. Otherwise you have to do a surety bond.
And about my rigs--one is a 1983 with 2f and 326000+ kms, stock, pretty much rust free, except some in the rain gutters. Baby s*** yellow, H41, full floater, bucket seats from something else, and the stock rear jump seats (4 persons/side). The other is a 1980, pretty rust free, camo curtains, 350 chev, h41, split case, full floater, power steer, air cond, some kind of stiff suspension and worn out 33" bfgs. I like the newer dash of the '83, but the '80 is cleaner, tighter, and the V8 is more fun to drive. The 2f was surprisingly drivable in LA, but I haven't driven it yet at 7000'. It was quieter than the v8, which was nice. Both are set to run on gas or propane as propane is readily available and much cheaper than gasoline in AU.
Hope that isn't too confusing.

That Lexus steering wheel is a nice touch. Did you hook up the air bag? :D

WOW!

RHD AND a burger....! There's some serious talent...............

AND flat towing another Troopie, AND wondering whats wrong with the gas guage, AND wondeing how much propane is left, AND wondering how accurate the temp gauge is AND wondering if the rear diff of the towed rig is holding up, AND after two freezing hours of "sleep" in the last 20 hours AND after driving 700 miles 100 of which was in LA rush hour.
