Ok, since my inquiry concerning a more powerful 3Fe/2F combo got denied by all yall, basically bcuz of the price it would cost, i ask you this: Is there an adapter or something that would allow the a440f tranny to work with a 350? or do you have to have the 350 tranny as well?
I got plenty of respect for a budget also, so no prob being realistic.

If not the auto a440f, will any other cruiser tranny mate directly (or indirectly) to the 350 powerplant? I couldn't find a straight up answer when i searched the forum archives either.
thanks

We here in OZ luv stuffing V8's into anything we can! haha.. Mark's adapters specialise in such like kits. www.marks4wd.com is the go. They will be able to help for sure.

I know you can get adapters for the Manual trannie, but it is good to know that you can get them for the AT as well!!

Not that I would ever go over to the dark side of Chevy. If it has to be a V8 then I would go Ford. But I am a ford man.

I would make things easier on yourself by using an adapter for the Landcruiser T-case to the american auto tranny. You get the offset driveshafts and a split cruiser case mated to the american tranny. The A440F would probably need a modified torque converter, and if it ever craps out on you it is very expensive to replace/have it rebuilt. And here in the states not many know how to do it right. There is an "Extreme" A440F made in Australia but be ready to spend $3,000 for it. But it is set-up to handle a 350.

Why wouldnt a A440F handle a 350? It seems they are plenty stout and have been used in a bunch of heavy applications by Toyota. Just curious.

Its not that it won;t handle it, because it came out of a 1 ton bus. I have heard that the torque converter sometimes gets burned up with the 350. And if the tranny has high milage it may be more likely to fail earlier with the added power. So then after the conversion he would have to rebuild the A440F since he already spent money on the adapter. And that will most likely mean $2000-$3000 more. I know people with an A440F bolted to a 350, and they say that an American tranny may work better for the application.

great ideas...exciting to know i can keep the auto tranny...or ditch it and still keep my tCase for the offset.
I wasn't aware there was so much for my 62...although i shoulda guess since i've seen every witch way combo for the 60.
I still don't know if i could put a chevota kick in the cruiser...i would love to have the FZJ80 1FZ-FE I6 in mine...230 hp with room to improve would be great for me! that is a truly awesome engine that most people haven't even begun to tap into yet.

I completely agree with this. Consider availibility of parts I've been hunting for a chevy tranny for my dad and was able to find a bunch close to home. With the 700R4 you've got an overdrive with the beef and a lot of aftermarket support. Support along the lines of shift kits torque converters etc etc. In hindsight I wish I had not spent the money on the ranger unit and run a Chevy auto to Toy t-case.
