well... drove the truck up to cruiser solutions today. ted went in on saturday even though they are closed to take in the truck. i feel releived, confident and just overall happy knowing that the truck is up there. he could not have been nicer. of course it'll cost a lot, oh well, sometimes you get what you pay for.

i did source an OEM toyota snorkle for the truck, its going on. in hugely rediculous but i love em. also measure the temp of the air at intake on the way up there and it was between 134 and 141 degrees. will be interesting to see the numbers on the way home.

Let me know how you feel after you see the bill.
I know you love them but be prepared to get a lot of weird looks and dumb questions from people that see the snorkle.

i had a snorkel on my 62 and loved talking to the people that asked me about the snorkel. in general, they went away happy knowing that they learned that is is not the exhaust that is re-routed but the air intake.

Ha Ha yeah people are stupid like that sometimes. You just got to set them straight.

If your gonna go in deep enough water where a snorkle is needed then you better start worrying about your exhaust. Getting water in your interior and frying your electronics. And the 1fz is not real fond of water. I've been in water up to my door handles with no ill effects but I moved right through. But if I got stuck it would of been bad. Most people I've talk to have snorkles for show or to get cooler air not to forge deep water. There's just way more to it than just slapping on a snorkle.

I like snorkels, small price to pay for the insurance of not fubar'ing your engine in the event of an unexpected nose-dunking.

some good bang for the buck i guess. i saw that picture of fogblanket's truck head first in the ice and wondered if that would be have been an issue with no snorkel.

then i had the water come up over the hood on my 62 going through the swedish mile, was happy to have it then.

now, getting stuck in the water, that is a whole nuther story but at least this way, choking the engine wont be the problem.

i feel like i am posting to myself here but so be it. i want to write about all the good things for people searching for a mechanic. ted, the owner of cruiser solutions just called me with an update and he is going to do so daily. s***, the people that board my dog dont even do that!

so, the truck is mostly apart... the 3rds are out, axles are out.... they needed to order a few parts but other than that things look good.

not only did he call with an update but he is going to send picts and maybe video.l say what you want about cost but i feel better and better every day about bringing it there!

Ted has always had time for every stupid question I've ever called him with. He doesn't get as much chatter on this site as he deserves.

Agreed, i visited his old shop when I first bought my 40. He gave me the tour,
let me look around, I bought some parts.
He had this yellow 40 he was building, the thing was sooo nice!
Great craftsmanship!

Couple of years ago when my son Steve worked there part-time he let us use the shop and lift to do a clutch in his 4Runner. The only problem was there was a pristine freshly painted 40 tub about 2' from us the whole time, I was paranoid I was gonna smack it with a wrench.

Super nice guy... and they really do nice work.

I've been doing business with Tedd on and off for about 14 years. Shortly after I bought my 40 I brought it to him to chat about potential modifications. His crew did some initial engine and suspension work to the truck which has worked since with no issues. I thought 33's would be too big and he said "trust me, you'll be wanting 35's in no time". LOL! Right he was. Since then he has spent countless hours explaining and debating "upgrades" and has talked me out of doing a few things over the years knowing how I wanted to use the truck. He's also been helpful in sharing tool and fabrication information as i wanted to learn how to do most work myself, not being a big spender as compared to the custom-build customers that work with CS.

Tedd and Cruiser Solutions is a great resource for us LC nuts regardless of the budget. He talks straight, doesn't over sell, is generous with his time, and does high quality work.
