FINALLY.

For those of you who don't know/remember my cruiser was hit back in November on the passenger side totaling it out. It was owned by my dad at the time and I bought it from him for the insurance salvage value. I purchased doors to replace the damaged ones way back in early December and just today got around to putting on the front one. Man what a difference it made, truck looks 10 times better.

All in all it took me about 3 hours to completely dismantle and remove the old door and then install and reassemble the new door. Amazingly enough there were no  moments and no snags to speak of. I'd never had a cruiser door off before, but I've been into a few other car doors before, so maybe that helped. Who knows. I'm just happy it's done. Now I just need to find a front fender and I'll be good to go.

Got 7.5 fresh quarts of Mobil 1 in there as well. Been a good day!

Did you post the specifics before, because I'm wondering how damaged doors alone could total a vehicle?

Anyway, congrats. Everytime I get something done to make mine look better, even just a car wash, it always feels a little 'better' behind the wheel too. ;)

I believe I posted them before, but basically the whole side of the cruiser from the rear door forward was trashed. The rear door, front door, fender, and all the flares, as well as the draglink. I also pointed out that since the draglink was bent and the axle seals were leaking that there might be a problem with the axle, so the adjuster tacked on the cost of a new housing as well ;) New doors cost roughly $1500 a piece btw. Good thing I bought the pair from James at cruiserparts.net for around $700 :D

All told the damage estimate came to around $7,000 and the cruiser was said to be worth $11,000. I guess they decided it was worthwhile to total it out. So they cut us a check for $9000 and let us keep the truck. I had it driveable for $80... :D
