Cruiser didnt start

Ok so I tried to take the cruiser for a spin today. And it fired right up but then it wouldnt keep firing unless I held the gas pedal to the floor. So I thought it might be the distributor timing being off but after adjusting it all over and continually trying to start it still no go. I am thinking that it might not be getting enough fuel, even though the new electric pump was pumping well. Maybe it is to far below the carb and can't lift the fuel high enough. Any thoughts?

The electric fuel pump will not have a problem pumping up to the carb, if working properly. This could be a multitude of other items. Make sure you are indeed getting sufficient fuel. Make sure the filter is clean/unobstructed. Make sure the float level is correct. Make sure a vacuum hose did not come off.

On the electrical side, check timing, rotor and cap, plug wires,ignition switch. Don't know what kind of engine, but some carbs have an idle solenoid that may not be working. Also, bad gas or water in the gas may be causing these symptoms.

Make sure you are not running too much fuel pressure causing your carb to flood.

One last thing, make sure all the hose clamps on your fuel lines are tight.

I checked the clamps and one was loose and a good bit of fuel ended up on the ground, but I fixed that. None of the others were leaking. I just put a brand new filter on and its one of the clear ones you can see through so its good to go. I just put a new vacuum hose to the carb and its on there good so thats not it. As for the dizzy its brand new the only thing that could be wrong with it is the timing but my dad and I just put it not to long ago and I replaced everything when I did that. I was going to check the plugs to make sure they were clean and regap them but I just bought new wires so those shouldnt be a problem either. I have the early f engine so it has a 1 barrel rochester on it right now. Which I plan on replacing at some point. My dad also suggested that it might be the float. I just need to get there so I can screw with it probably. Its good to have a list of things to check though.
