cause and effect.

Is that the rear diff?

Probably. Torque wrapping the rear axle and snapping the pinion is pretty common.
I found this "still life" while roaming Slickrock campground with my camera years ago.

I was thinking that came from your girlfriend's Hundy. I've heard the front diff on early 100-series are pretty weak, with a 2-pinion diff instead of a stronger 4-pinion that's in the 2000 and later models.

I have a pinion shaft that looks just like that. as Juane said, axle wrap (broken traction bar) caused a rear failure. Robbie A. helped me replace it on the trail. I have video of that.:D

what I liked was the beer empties around it. that why I called it "cause and effect".:hillbilly:

A 100 series front diff looks completely different than the traditional front and rear drop-in diff of SFA trucks. It's a real crap ass design.

Thanks Toyota for crapifying the Land Cruiser to improve comfort and on-pavement handling.
