Cruise Moab Tech Inspection

I know there is some discussions going on about what to expect at Moab 05. Well in the past we have tried to regulate what is road legal, this year we will be going by the TLCA guide lines and the stuff on the application. We will be letting people know what may be illegal in Utah, but will not be turning away vechicles for not being legal. A safe rig is more what we will be looking for, along with leaks. So If your truck has a line lock and the braking system is working and will stop the vechicle, that will be OK. If that is your only parking brake, then we request that you have a wheel chock(or something similar). If fan belts are falling off, if your engine is not functions well, If it is a exxon Valdez, these things will need to be fixed. If it is a trailer queen with no licence plate, you will have to trailer it to the trail head. They all need to be insured, and licenced in some way(BLM requires other forms of licence if not licenced for the road).
I have had a few interesting conversations with several officials. Utah is one tough state to be road legal in. No mud flaps, Missing body panels, no mirrors, frames over 24-28 inches off the ground(depends on GVW),Body lift over three inches over the frame, tires sticking past the body, Tire exposed more than 50 of width past the flare, tube buggies (not road legal). I hope you all get the gist of this, I am not trained in Utah to make the chose of if your vechicle is road legal(it takes a 3 day course, a 69 page manual). The converstion I had with LT Peterson Of the UHP, in the newly formed patrol area around Moab, was one that was enlightening. Was casual and gave me insite to what his major concerns were. We need to be polite and not mess around on the road. Vechicles can be pulled over for infractions of the law and vechicles can be inpounded if they are way beyond the legal boundries. His biggest beefs are, bummpers too high, no mirrors, missing body panels, tires way beyond the body of the vechicle. But he did indicate that he can not tell us to break the law(he can not tell me to not run mud flaps, but would look the other way(not his exect words) as long as I was a law abideing guy not creating problems). But if I am not able to follow simple road law, it may come down hard on me if my vechicle is also not road legal.
I believe that we are more welcomed then easter jeep safari, as we do not bring along a extra party element and conduct our event with a certain flare. We seem to party and keep the party somewhat mild compared to EJS.
So I know this is long, but did want to get the message out about how the tech inspection was going to be run this year.

Thanks Robbie - I've got some dumb questions.

So I've got your typical 80 series, parking brake ect....

Do I need anything special regarding brakes? I would think I'm good to go assumes everythings working.

I've read the details in the CM05 email and wondered about how relevent the note about stalling the truck with the hand brake when you have an automatic. That doesn't make sense. I assume that's just for manual trans.

A big anchor with plenty of chain. No really you would be fine as long as the parking brake is adjusted properly. A line lock is flicked on after you apply the brakes(with foot or other means) to hold pressure on the calipers or the cylinder to keep the brakes tight then your foot can be removed to act as a parking brake as such. I do not have the RPM's that you would have to hold against, but it is correct to do it with a auto, to see that it hold some(mostly to check it will maybe hold on a hill). hope this helps later robbie
