This year's event will be from Tuesday, April 29th through Sunday May 4th. Our headquarters will be at the lot just south of and adjacent to Slickrock Campground again. You do not have to stay at Slickrock Campground if you don't want to, it is just the epicenter of the event. The schedule will be the same as the last couple of years with the overnight runs:

Tuesday - Kokopelli Run Starts (3 Days 2 Nights - limit 14 rigs!)
Wednesday - San Rafael Swell Run Starts (2 days 1 night - limit 20 rigs), Registration, Safety Inspection, Fins & Things Night Run!!!
Thursday - Guided Trail Runs, Vendor Night
Friday - Guided Trail Runs, Dinner, Raffle
Saturday - Guided Trail Runs
Sunday - Clean up and go home

We expect registration to open around the middle of January. Basically whenever we get all the updates done on the cruisemoab.com web site.

We are keeping registration the same as it has been for the past two years: $175 + BLM fees, which are a straight pass-through. We are also passing through the $25/head food costs for the overnight runs. Remember, Rising Sun doesn't make a dime on Cruise Moab. We donate 100% of the proceeds to land use and to improving the event.

Be advised that you must be a current TLCA member to register. We could not have this event without our affordable TLCA insurance, it is a TLCA sanctioned event and therefor you must be a TLCA member. It's only $30 if you sign up before the dues increase.

Dave Kaiser is the committee chair this year. I am doing trail assignments and registration again this year. If you have any questions, please contact Dave or me at the emails above. Please do not PM me here with questions about Cruise Moab. Feel free to join the Rising Sun forum on the Cruise Moab thread.

Here are some changes from prior years:
(1) We have added a new trail, Flat Iron Mesa
(2) We have added a NIGHT RUN!!! Fins & Things Wednesday night.
(3) We are having vendors sponsor trails. If you want to run with a particular vendor, then pick which trail they are going to lead on which day. Here is who we have so far:

Red Line Land Cruisers (Justin Robbins) - Pritchett Canyon (Thursday)
Cruiser Outfitters (Kurt Williams) - San Rafael Swell (Wednesday)
American Toyota (C-Dan) - Fins & Things (Friday)
Gamiviti (Tim Nakari) - Wipe Out Hill (Friday)
IH8MUD - (Brian "Woody" Swearingen) - Poison Spider Mesa (Friday)
Book Cliff Land Cruisers (Jon Harris) - Kokopelli Trail (Tuesday)
Colorado Toyota Specialists (Joe Calleja) - Behind the Rocks (Friday)
Slee Off Road (Christo Slee) - Hell's Revenge (Thursday)
Just Differentials (Carl Montoya) Porcupine Rim (Friday)
Gobi Racks - (Daniel Markofski) - Kane Creek Canyon (Friday)

I will update the above as the information becomes available.

If you would like to attend, now is a good time to put in for time off from work, if you need a lot of advance notice.

We want to THANK YOU for all the help you guys have given to Cruise Moab! I really appreciate you guys helping out leading and gunning trails, and all the volunteer work you do at the event. As always, I am counting on you to help lead and gun, so please post up! As we did last year, leaders and gunners get a cash stipend, and leaders get a super-nice high quality trail leader shirt - not another t-shirt but a nice button-down shirt with pockets and stuff.

Happy crusin'!

Sounds great! Thanks for the update.

True but I won't be able to sign up until I get back around March 1. Hoping you or Jonathan can pull some strings for me. My money is solid.

I spoke with Jon today and he said you were in Baja and had spotty internet, but obviously you have some. He sent you an email today ;)

I just signed up. Plan to camp again but hopefully not at the Slick Rock. Didn't really care for the raining worms. Anyone have ideas for a better camping spot? :bounce:

There are a number of RV style campgrounds in the greater Moab area. One of the main reasons we go to Slickrock is that it is one of only two campgrounds that permits us to work on our rigs (read: fix broken stuff) in camp. The other one is Spanish Trails on the south side of town. They don't have the cottonwood trees, but then again, that also means no shade. Every year a number of people like to camp somewhere along the river on BLM land. That's fine too, just remember there is no water or electricity, and if you camp outside designated campsites no outhouses either. A lot of people like to stay at hotels or rent condos - whenever my wife come out that's where you'll find her. :princess:

I have no problem with the venue. Just didn't like the worms. Might try one of the BLM sites by the river. Hey Johnathon, is that where you guys were camping last year?

Nice introduction to the event Jeff! It's great that you added the sponsored trails this year. That's an awesome way for vendors to interact with current and prospective clients and gives some awesome visibility.

Dan, this is my preferred alternative to Scumrock.

Directly across the street and really nice. Great value too when considering that you have a full kitchen/bbq/hot tub yadda yadda yadda.

For free/BLM fee camping, the Colorado River canyon, as Jeff mentioned, is great, and there are a lot of areas north of Moab that see some action from CM participants.

Wow! That place looks super nice but will they let me pitch my tent in the yard?

I also got this recommendation from James "Woodsman"over in the blue room. http://www.riversideoasis.com/ Anyone else interested? Looks nice but I don't want to be stuck over there by myself.

Slickrock Campground Web Site

For several days now, the Slickrock Campground website has a redirect to dualsportutah.com. No one has reported on the Rising Sun board or backchannel within the Cruise Moab committee on being about to contact Slickrock directly (not sure anyone's tried, just reporting what I know).

But our Esteemed Secretary, Sascha Steinway (AKA Nattybumpo) has reported that if you go to http://www.webreserv.com/slickrockcampgroundoh you can make reservations at Slickrock Campground, and that appears to be the regular redirect when you go to reserve anyway.

I and most of our Committee and Trail Sponsors had already reserved before this dualsportutah business, so I don't have any first-hand experience to report about this alternative way to reserve at Slickrock Campground. But we think it's legit and if anyone has anything to report, please let us know.

Safari LTD is going to attend Marv Specter's memorial on May 4th, and have decided that the logistics of Cruise Moab and going to California were just too much, so they have pulled out of Cruise Moab 2014.

While we are disappointed and will miss them very much, we certainly understand. Cruise Moab is every year. Marv's memorial is only once.

I had signed up to do both trips that Hugh and crew were leading. Too bad but fully understood. I'd be willing to gun either or both trips and have run both two or three times.

Most of the club members who are attending have agreed to boondock camp north of town. I believe it is Blue Hills Road. Will have to get specific location later. No more caterpillars or cotton snow. Ugh.

It would be nice if they were, say, oak trees instead of cottonwood, but oaks don't grow well in that climate and soil. At least there is some shade. The year we tried Spanish Trails campground the burning sun was worse than the cotton and caterpillars. And of course anywhere along the river is going to be infested with mosquitoes.

Count me in. Will be monitoring for additional details. I did sign up to do Kokopelli but have not received anything back on my trail assignments yet.

TLCA membership status

I just sent off our registrant's info to Jennifer at TLCA so she can verify current membership status for our Cruise Moab registrants. As soon as I hear back from her, I will commence making trail assignments and sending out confirmation emails to current TLCA members. Those that aren't current will get a friendly reminder from me. ;)

My membership expired this month. Check was sent out Feb 27 so I should be current by now.

I won't be able to make the CM prerun gathering but you can put me down for gunner on both the trails I signed up for Friday and Saturday; Seven Mile and Wipeout.
