Hello Book Cliff friends!

I am in charge of trail assignments, trail leaders and trail gunners for Cruise Moab 2013. You guys have been great partners in past years and we look forward to your continued help for the 2013 event.

Please use this thread to tell me:

(1) I can lead XYZ trail
(2) I can gun XYZ trail
(3) I don't want to lead or gun, but would like to volunteer to help at the event

Thanks and happy cruisin'!

Be glad to lead Dome Plateau. Have run it twice this year and know it quite well. Also have guide books, maps and GPS to keep me on track. I will be trying to get on one of the overnights again so my trail should be later in the week.

Happy to lead Fins or Hell's on Friday or Saturday. If Doug does not attend I will Gun for Ace on Dome. I'd also be OK gunning on 7 mile, Hells or Fins. I too will be attempting to be on one of the overnights.

I would be interested in gunning for Jonathan if he leads Hell's or Fin's. I would also volunteer to lead Fin's, I've run it many times. I've only done Hell's twice so I would rather be gunner on that one. Probably going to try and snag a spot on the San Rafael overnighter this year so a spot on Fri or Sat would be cool.

Jon, your name came up at the October CM committee meeting as someone who might be able to lead one of the overnight runs, such as Kokapelli - what say ye?

I say we can probably talk a bit more about it if it is looking like last years leaders or someone else is not chomping at the bit. It would be hard to tear me away from the Swell (I could probably attend the pre-run though :D) but there is also a certain logic to having another club focus on one of the runs. Question for Jeff and all you other Book Cliff Cruisers members. How do you feel about the potential for Book Cliff Cruisers to "sponsor" the Kokopelli much in the same way as Wasatch does with the Swell? I'm treading on egg shells here as I do not know how the people who originally set up the Kokopelli overnight feel about it.

:hhmm:

If the Book Cliff Cruisers end up "sponsoring" the Kokopelli run, I would like to help out with that, will have to put in for the time off. Have the dates for CM been set yet?

May 1st through 5th. IIRC the Kokopelli overnight starts on Tuesday?

I too will volunteer to help on the Kokopelli trip if I'm available. I won't know until later on in the spring. Maybe work a base camp set-up, supply a generator, truck firewood, etc. Keep me in the loop! I might also be available for pre-running it...:)

Cool Bob, Doug. I'm sure Ranch Hand, maybe even Crash would be in too. Looks like lots of interest here.......

Robbie Antonsen has led Kokopelli in past years, and told me at a Rising Sun meeting that he will not be leading it in 2013. Jon, if you would be willing to lead it I will certainly put you down! We have Kokopelli and the San Rafael Swell "in concrete" according to BLM permit guru Neil Quigley, and he is also working on getting us Beef Basin as a 3rd overnight run.

I have signed up for the Wasatch forum but as far as I can tell, am still waiting for a moderator to approve my registration to post up there. Toyota Trails lists Kurt Williams as their TLCA contact, I need to ping him and see how I can establish direct communication with Wasatch.

Jon you are correct, the overnight runs normally start on Tuesday (that would be April 30th).

Other than Trail Leaders (and probably gunners in the case of the overnight runs), I can not assure anyone in particular of getting a particular trail on a particular day for any particular individual. Trails are normally assigned on a first come first served basis, with some exceptions.

I have in my notes that Kokopelli is limited to 14 rigs according to our permit. I *think* the Swell might be 20 (again according to my notes from the last CM committee meeting), but I would need to confirm that with Neil.

All that said, who else in Book Cliff can lead any of our regular trails, such as Alan on Dome Plateau?

Thanks and happy cruisin'!

Thanks for the info. PM Sent!

Jeff,

I tried to send you a pm too and got the message that your box is full.

Hey all,
I am back to civilization! I am planning on going to CM13 and would be willing to help out. The 4 runner is getting new hardware, not VMI, long story and will save it for our next meeting in person. Would be willing to lead or gun as well as I purchased a new ham radio and soon to be taking my operators license test. Planning on being at the pre run as well. Keep me in the loop please.

Cheers,

Matt

I echoing Jonathan's question. If Robbie and possibly Chris are out of Kokopelli in 2013 how about Book Cliff Cruisers take it on as a club effort? I have done the Koko three times, twice in this year in fact. Doug also ran it with me just last month so it's pretty fresh in our minds.

Matt, I'm anxious to here what happened at VMI. You may have heard that I am busy building a small off-road trailer out of a ATV trailer. Thread is on Expo called "Double R Trailer Rebuild". Here is a teaser:

Here is something that just occurred to me. If the BLM permit only allows 14 rigs how do we chose who goes from BCC and still leave room for "guests"? I have often wondered how Wasatch does this. They have pretty much the same crew each year, but they also have a bigger quota of 20.

Just speaking from how i understand it was setup in prior years, A leader and a gunner and maybe one other support member would likely attend as trail drivers from BCC. As well as people needed in camp for cooking, gear hauling, tech inspections etc. just like they do in the Swell. Those people are not really part of the count. All of the participants would be luck of the draw. There would/will be a lot of planning involved on our part to make it happen successfully with an emphasis on participant satisfaction and a lot of jobs that I feel people would love to volunteer for.

I course everything is dependent on the permit and future discussions with the committee. We'll see what happens.

Having done the SRS trip several times I know how they do it. But seems to me the Koko would be significantly different. Example would be meals provided. It's one thing to do that in a base camp with tables, generators and all that; but it would be way more difficult on the trail. Maybe one of us could tow a chuck wagon. :-)

It would be beneficial if Robbie or Chris would get in this discussion.
