I bought a hydraulic wire crimper a while back from Harbor Freight and didn't realize until I got home it was actually for crimping wire rope.
Here's the tool:
Hydraulic Wire Crimping Tool

Anyway, I haven't use it much until recently when I've been rewiring an old boat and doing some stuff on the 60. Even though it's not designed for electrical wire it should work fine right? Seems like it should I just wanna make sure I'm not missing something. It will crimp the s*** out of something I know that!!!

Correct or not, I used that exact tool today to build 2AWG cables to relocate my winch control box. It worked like a champ.

Huh, they're long gone now but the instructions that came with mine were specifically for swaging wire rope. Maybe I just got the wrong manual???

The description states it is for 14 to 0 AWG copper and aluminum wires:meh:

How long have you had yours? Holding up well? Sometimes the HF stuff tends to be "single Use".

I've had it for 2 weeks and done exactly 8 crimps of 2 gauge wire. Working great so far... :meh:

I've actually had mine for over a year, probably closer to two. Used it 8-10 times now with zero trouble. I was just curious as I remember the manual saying it was for wire rope and just thought to post something about it. Beats the hell out of the little hammer crimper deal I've got all day long.

I use the hammer crimper, but not with a hammer:

bringing back the old thread
I mounted a new Ironman bumper on my BJ70 and needed to relocate the solenoid pack from on the motor to under the hood so I needed to make new longer 2g wires.

I went to the HF looking for one of these , which they were out so I made my own from the 24" bolt cutters that were on sale for less then $14
heres the :hillbilly: pix
worked very well and I can still use them as bolt cutters if I can get the item to cut in far enough :grinpimp:

That is a good idea. I've got several cheap bolt cutters, laying around, that will work for that.

Thanks, Ron
